@Suiseiseki @kaia agree but if you've got a pretty advanced FOSS project that uses some js framework for framework you'd need to hold back the development of everything else if you were to rewrite it to use minimum to no js. I was foolish to choose svelte for librate frontend instead of some frugal js for optional QoL features or stuff that is hard to and make secure do with plain HTML + CSS but were I to rewrite the frontend, instead of having the first public instance launched within like next couple of days, I'd probably spend most of this winter rewriting frontend with no noticeable improvements and new features.

@meso @mja @allison yeah most people don't check PKGBUILDs from AUR, it's the easiest attack vector probably. And some wouldn't even suspect malware if their system broke, they'd just assume it's Arch being Arch.

@grillchen but masto collects less data, doesn't have it's tracking pixels all around the web and also it's not like your IP and other PII from outside the presentation layer is shared over AP. At the end of the day you need to be careful about what you post publicly no matter the platform.

@All_bonesJones @Moon @coolboymew but this also has to be done properly. see hoi4 where mods that fix historical inaccuracies, add things like harder urban combat, more complex econ and more turbulent politics or just fix the moronic AI, which are things that make the gameplay harder and more realistic, lock you out of achievements.

@grillchen yes and no, fedi allows you to pick an instance that'd keep you from some known cesspools by defederation of have yours do so, but that's it. smh it bothers me that as an user all you can do is mute, not block instances. but on the other hand, nostr doesn't even do that, no people congregating in specific groups with their own rules, everyone can run a relay and interact with anyone. maybe also because of this it hasn't succeeded as much as fedi, if only one could have a way to isolate oneself from stupid btc fans. Speaking of which, it all makes me think of fedi as "bitcoin of social networking" due to btc's transparent, pseudonymous nature. while we are probably yet to see a more widely adopted next generation alternative or a set of improvements that'd be the equivalent of privacycoins if we're to use this comparison. maybe the fight against Threads will lead us there.
