Initially, after the recent spam flood originating from mastodon.social, the mods of that instance enabled registration reasons. They have since disabled this step, and registration is fully open again. As such, there are no visible preventative measures in place to prevent a spam flood again. The spam has alerted us to the danger of the combination of a large "central" server, and no restrictions to signups. As such, in the absence of better moderation tools built into Mastodon, we have decided to maintain our limit on mastodon.social indefinitely. Until preventative measures are in place, or we have a better way of handling another server's spam problem, we want to take steps to protect our community.A Server Limit means that users on mastodon.social cannot contact you without you following that user first. You will still be able to contact users there who you already follow, and vice-versa.

Concretely, for us to undo the Server Limit on mastodon.social, we would need one of the following;- Better moderation tools. Specifically, ones that would allow us to filter DMs and mentions with specific keywords, server-wide.- Mastodon.social to enact preventative measures - or display to us hidden preventative measures - that would prevent a bad actor from signing up a lot of users in a short amount of time with no moderator oversight. Registration reasons would do this.Until then, mastodon.social has become, and stays, a real spam harassment risk for our community.

We, the moderation and administration of tech.lgbt, are signing the Anti-Meta Fedi Pact in fellowship with our peer communities. (https://vantaa.black/pact)There is over a decade of precedent that Facebook will not have users' best interests as their guiding principle but rather profit margins, if it joins the Fediverse. We at tech.lgbt have long held the belief that corporation owned instances are a threat to the core of the Fediverse: freedom for users to be themselves and to be a part of their communities. The 2010s saw the loss of online freedom when the majority of the Web was consolidated into a few destinations, and Facebook entering here could lead us back to centralization. Furthermore, NDAs for server admins will constrain our sovereignty online by binding us legally from disrupting their business. We are not products. We are people, and we do not welcome Facebook in this space.#meta #FediPact #facebook #project92 #mastodon #fediverse #FediBlockMeta #FediAdmin #p92 #MastoAdmin

#InstanceBlock universeodon.comWe are limiting universeodon at this time, and considering a full suspension at a later point. We have heard concerning messages from universeodon's admin, Byron Miller, about their views on Meta, the Fediverse, and privacy in general.Mastodon.art has defederated over similar concerns, many of which we share: https://dotart.blog/dotart-blog/defederating-from-universeodonWe do not consider recent actions by the universeodon admin, such as deliberately smearing another fediverse admin for their limit, as acceptable behavior for a fediverse admin, and this is something we do not want to engage with.https://mastodon.art/@welshpixie/110624074405406421

#InstanceBlock threads.netThis is (or appears to be) the server domain that Facebook/Meta will be operating their ActivityPub/Fediverse server from, according to the following Reverse Engineering of their briefly-published android app; https://haqueers.com/@Rairii/110645315091243151Should there be any other domains that they will use for their server, then we will block them too.
