@futurebird As a little kid, I was pretty girlie -- long hair, lots of pink, etc. Then suddenly when I hit adolescence, everything got weird. I felt like I missed getting a copy of the "Girl Handbook" because even though I wasn't a tomboy or genderfluid, I wasn't a girl the way all the other girls were. I didn't travel in a pack, I didn't like babies or fashion or makeup. I couldn't relate to other girls anymore, but I still felt like I was one! It made me question "traditional" roles, for sure.

@futurebird I am no sure where languages (fluency/history/culture; not linguistics) fall in this -- I guess under Social Science? But the thought of being in the same category as an MBA was surprisingly distasteful. 😬

@futurebird I was thinking Liberal Arts = Arts & Sciences, so you would have Social Sciences and STEM as your sciences and Fine Arts and Liberal Arts (history, languages, philosophy, that kind of thing) as your arts, but yeah, "liberal arts" is more of an umbrella term than I thought it was.At my uni we have a college of arts & sciences; we also have a college of medicine, of nursing, of dentistry, and of business. Those are all "professional" things outside arts & sciences/liberal arts.

@futurebird I think we're about the same age. Experiences like this make me understand why my mom chose to teach the "we don't see color" lesson -- not realizing, of course, that it actually started a whole different kind of problem. (Which has reversed our roles; I now try to teach her about erasure. She's taking the reframing well!)

@futurebird I like that he's lived overseas, teaching English in China -- I lived in South Korea for several years when I was younger (military brat) and as a white person it's important to know what it feels like to look around and see NO ONE who looks like you.

@futurebird Ahhhh yesss. <3I saw it in theatres and was probably just below the intended audience's age -- just young enough that many of the scenes scared the living fk out of me or just gutted me entirely. But, Gods, what a masterful movie. Given how much good media there is out there today that I'm constantly trying to remember to get to, this is one of the few things I'll rewatch.

@futurebird Not that you shouldn't also take her to the vet, but it's possible that she learned she gets attention this way and has decided to keep the habit. I had an elderly cat do that years and years ago after a giant upheaval in my life that caused me to be busier and not home as much as she wanted me to be. Even after things calmed down and I was home, the yelling stayed, and it always sounded like she was dying.

@futurebird Same with my spouse! He wants to try everything, which is nice, but if I'm making a meal it needs to be something we can both eat. I have built up his tolerance quite a bit, but my personal hot sauce collection has also flourished. It's also led to me making more chili, because if it's spicy, he'll just add sour cream.The things we do for love!(I call him Mr. Candy Mouth, hehehehe.)

@futurebird Bless both y'all's hearts. I seriously struggled with proofs because I moved mid-school year from a place that taught them separately at the end of the year to a place that had been teaching them all year. (And also I was difficult child. You shouldn't tell me for 10 years what a triangle is then suddenly decide *I* need to prove it. *You* prove it if you're unsure, I can tell by looking.)
