I actually really love #photography and I’ve got a bit of an eye for it at a very casual level. I took this pic on an iPhone in Central Park, New York City—sometime in the early 2010s.

@seb Any plans on keeping this server going or thoughts behind it? Waiting to see if things die down?

This is one of my favorite photos of all time that I’ve taken. This was taken in 2018 in Washington State at Olympic National Park. #photography

Regardless of the intentions of anything happening over on the bird site, the tech industry will step up and humanity will prevail. Mastodon isn’t perfect. In time, the platform will get better and connect us in ways we never thought possible. Power to the people, indeed.

@nathankhensley this is literally the same complaint that the conservatives/E had and why they want to get rid of the blue check. Why does it matter? I follow people because I think they might have something interesting to say. That’s really all it should be about.

As an American, I support Ukraine and I think we need to give dictators the middle finger wherever we can. I’m not a huge fan of perpetual war, but understand the necessity of picking up arms when it is called upon. This is a good message and I hope we see closer cooperation with Ukraine in the future. We can be perpetual friendly countries.

As a straight white male who has LGBTQ friends and follows a number of mixed gender and sexuality creators, I just want to point out you can be friends with folks and appreciate people and hell even admire attractiveness and still be “straight”. I’ve never really been one for labels for anything really—the world and everything and everyone in it is both temporary and variable. Live your best life, live how and as who you want to be. And accept others for who they are. Hell, you don’t have to go out of your way to “show how much of an ally you are”—just don’t be a dick to people. I mean it’s really that simple. Don’t be a dick. Nobody’s gonna castrate you (lol) if you say “sorry, I’m not gay.” Or “sorry, I prefer not to date trans folks”—just don’t be an asshole. Don’t vote to take their rights away. Don’t blast folks on social media. You don’t even have to be friends with everybody. We all have our preferences and we don’t have to get along with everyone. Just don’t be a dick.

So I recently saw an article where Rackspace claimed a Microsoft 0-Day is what their hosted Exchange environment succumbed to. And while it is true that a true patch hadn’t been released until November; there were various attempts at mitigating the issue. And while researchers kept finding ways around those mitigations, I’d be curious if there was more detail around the specific method utilized. Consequently, I think this is a cop-out but it’s hard to say.

For my fellow white people living in suburbia, I suggest the following: Look deeper into the reasons for the narratives being pushed. Biases are always going to exist, but the reason for the bias is the important part. If the reason for the bias is improving our society, communities, human health, etc--is that such a problem of being biased? If the reason for being biased is to sow division, make you angry and fearful of your neighbors; then clearly that's bad. Bias is always going to exist. Look for the reason behind the bias. Inner city gang violence is a societal problem in the US. Some want to use this to make you fearful of a certain race, while others want to use it to highlight socioeconomic problems where we need to put more societal investment. Understand the differences here, and vote and follow accordingly.

So I’ve recently gotten into firearms as an adult. I grew up around them—having owned a number of pellet guns and .22’s. My family, being mostly conservative, all own firearms. As a leftist person I can tell you it’s very interesting. For the most part—my house had been solidly mixed politics. So to me, having a firearm never seemed political. Of course, now that I’m older I see the strong identity that certain groups have regarding firearm ownership. Which I think is pretty dumb, and frankly, downright concerning. But I don’t want to address the politics too much in this post and more about just everything else. 1/N

Firstly, I really really dislike how dishonest some folks are with firearms. Like they misquote statistics or just flat out lie. The fact of the matter is your chances of dying from a firearm are dramatically higher if you own them. That’s an indisputable fact. In general, if you have kids and own firearms—they are more likely to be killed by the firearms you possess than any other firearms in existence. So if you have children, keep that in mind. This is an important thing to know an understand. And I know gun safes and all that help—but kids can be crafty. And if they know mommy or daddy keep a key behind the 3rd book on the left of the book shelf, they’re going to get into it. 2/N

For the most part, the reality is most people are chill. You shouldn’t really need to concealed carry anywhere. Statistically, again, you’re not likely to find yourself in a situation needing a firearm. The gun culture here is where the politics creep in. I’ve lived and worked in a variety of areas from poverty to wealth. And I can assure you that most folks are just trying to go about their day. MOST people, as in like 99.999999% of people, are not out to kill you. Your chances of actually needing a firearm in a situation are going to be pretty damn low.

Looking at data, robberies in California for 2021 was 43,628. That means in California, there were 5 robberies per hour across the state. I’ll do the math here in a bit but the reality is the odds of you being in a position of being needing to use a firearm are pretty much slim to none. Especially since most of the time you’re at work, or at home in bed.

@BarrenPlanet more than likely. Though I don’t know the details on that. The gun one is because easy access to firearms results in higher incidences of self harm and such. Among other things. Accidents/Mishandling.

I think it goes without saying that just because there’s footage of cops leading the insurrectionists through the Capitol doesn’t make what they did right. It makes those cops insurrectionists too. They too should be in jail—for much longer jail times than the crowd. That said, I thought it was common knowledge that the cops let them through? Or was I hallucinating when I saw the videos of the cops literally opening the barriers? #politics #uspol

I've been working on trying to get healthier. I've started going to the gym. It's been quite a bit difficult--but I know I need to stick with it. I'm tired of being incapable of shit. It's really bad. It's the worse I've ever been. I've hit rock bottom with my physical health and it's time to do something about it. It's rough, but it's going. Slowly but surely it is going.
