@piggo Yes, paper QSLs still exist but sadly declining. The card has been sent inside an envelope.

Dear battery spot welding people: when recycling old battery packs, do I want to remove the old welds or cut them short and weld another layer over them? If I remove it, a bit of it will stay in the battery (see picture) - that's why I am asking. I don't have a spot welder yet so I am lacking experience but want to prepare everything now.

Today I opened my Playstation 2 Slim, cleaned it, replaced the laser and lubed the machanic. It was an easy and affordable (13€) fix that surpisingly went well so it can now read game and movie DVDs again!

Today I received the spot welder kit, assembled it and built the smaller battery pack (4s2p) of the two. Worked fine but I had to use a 100Ah battery as power source to make it actually weld.

And the second battery is finished. I've found an additional pack of 4 cells, reprinted the frame and was therefore able to build it as 4s6p pack. Spot welding is fun!

Today was a great day! This morning I had my first FM QSO via the ISS with G7BEH/p. Excuse my bad English but I was not prepared for it to actually work so I was a bit overwhelmed.Rig: Kenwood D700Antenna: Diamond X200 on the roof of the house

This looks like a fun thing to do in dark winter nights: http://lightcube.space/It is s small satellite with a bright flashing light that can be activated by sending specific packet by licensed hams.

Today I achieved a personal goal: working 6 continents in one day in SSB. OC: VK4GD, Australia, 20mAS: JA7QVI and JH1HDT, Japan, 12mAF: TZ4AM, Mali, 20mSA: PY4JW, Brazil, 15mEU: G6INU, England, 40mNA: KC1KUG, USA, 20mSounds a lot like bragging and well yes, it is :)

Still being on my quest to bridge additional systems to the Fediverse DV network, I am now trying to get us a bridged Hamshack Hotline conference room. Here are their requirements:"1 - Must be a verifiable club or a Compelling reason that must be verifiable.2 - Must have at least 5 members with verifiable HH extensions.3 - Must outline a compelling reason to have a Private Bridge. [...]"Do we have 5 interested Mastodonians with a HH extension here?

News from the FediHams Digital Voice Network: We have now added Echolink and AllStarLink to the network!Echolink seems to run smoothly, AllStarLink access generates some noise after releasing PTT. Need to find out whats wrong later on.Please feel free to join and do your experiments! More info here: https://fedihams.net/

Maybe a few words on what this means and what you can do with this: If you'd like to chat with other Mastodonians (or others), you can pick one of the technologies/modes listed on https://fedihams.net and the other the same or any of the other ones. No matter if you come from DMR, YSF, Echolink or AllStarLink, you can have a QSO with other hams that are also connected via any of the listed nodes/TGs/reflectors.

Awesome day: Drove with a friend and his 80 year old Willys Jeep to #POTA park DA-0014 and could successfully activate it. Highlight of the day: Park to Park QSO with VA3DXP which was my first portable DX QSO ever.Logged all my QSOs in FLE log format in Vim which was really nice. Will be my new logging method for portable operations.

Is there a solution for bringing back the possibility to scroll up in the console of modern GNU/Linux systems? I've read that it has been stripped from the kernel.I am using a console only System in my shack and don't want to use tmux or screen. I want to switch ttys with Alt+Fx and scroll with shift+page[up/down]

@w8emv thank you Ed for your excellent answer! Changing/patching kernels might not be the best solution since I am on a raspberry pi but I'll look into it.This is annoying :(Thank you!

I am still thinking about buying/building a Z80 based retro computer kit to tinker with CP/M and Basic but I fear that I will only have fun building it and then it will only collect dust.Any thoughts on what to actually do with this?
