This is an exceptional piece walking through the policy disaster that is Bill C-18. I’m struck that it contains 25 links to other sources. If posted on Facebook, the government maintains that each of those links brings the piece into the bill’s scope.---RT @marcedge1We are now in a contest to see who can sink lower in pursuit of Google and Facebook's digital millions —government or media. #cdnmdia #cdnpoli https://canadiandimension.…https://twitter.com/marcedge1/status/1638569901236568064

This tweet from Heritage Minister @pablorodriguez comes as the government hopes to wrap up Bill C-11 and its rejection of the Senate fix to user content regulation. Hard to overstate how misleading it is, but I’ll try. Bill C-11 Claim 1: “platforms pay their fair share” Reality: Platforms already are among the biggest investors in Canadian film/TV production. So what’s the reality? Experts, the Senate, former CRTC chair all agree Bill C-11 still includes the potential to regulate user content. The Senate proposed a fix. @pablorodriguez rejected it. Why? Because retaining the power to regulate *is* the goal. 7/7https://www.michaelgeist.ca/2023/03/government-response-to-senate-bill-c-11-amendments-reveals-its-true-intent-retain-power-and-flexibility-to-regulate-user-content/

As this Yom Hashoah begins, I’m thinking of my grandparents. They survived the camps though most of their families did not. Canada offered a chance at a new life, yet today I see once unimaginable antisemitism on our campuses and streets that is excused, dismissed or ignored by far too many.
