I stopped paying attention to bar trivia nights years ago, in part because I picked up this feeling like there should be some sort of certification process of the hosts and their questions.Case in point, a question I just overheard: the question was subjective involving “my grandfather” and the point totals announced for the various accepted answers (a subset at best of possible answers) seemed arbitrary and useless.Silly and dumb if you are drunk I guess and I’m just an unpaid critic

@purple Yeah, that was the other reason I mostly started just avoiding bars on trivia nights, the audio situation is not great at most bars and if you aren’t playing trivia can be a lot of nonsense noise Some of the trivia hosts don’t trust bar sound systems so bring their own PAs, then some of those bars use that as an excuse to keep playing random junk on their sound system and let the PAs fight 🤦 Cacophonies as a service

My “temporary” NAS is again reporting SMART failures in one of my drives and I’m back to wondering if this NAS is just a scam to sell more hard drives. I still haven’t come across a more permanent NAS solution I like the looks or cost of. Maybe I’m just not cut out for this kind of hardware responsibility.I love the idea of having always available on-site replica of data, but I start to wonder if it should be a shared building utility like a central HVAC splits costs/betters outcomes.

@purple This particular one tells me that 46C is in the normal operating temperatures of the drives and the internet corroborates that may be likely, but that’s water boiling temperatures and the NAS seems too packed like sardines for what appears to be just passive cooling. 🤷Apparently I’ve never thought about it before, which is more reason I’d probably rather have a “NAS pro” handle the hardware for me. 😹

@apLundell Also the way the internet works, people might see the video embedded in for instance a Discord channel and not see or notice the title or the thumbnail because they autoplay all videos recommended in that channel. I’ve certainly had a “Did I?” response already more than once to statements like that. It’s kind of silly.

I hate ammo management in this game. It’s fun playing in a period where main story quest achievements pop up as Rare achievements.It is a rare achievement that I’ve not yet been sidetracked from the main quest. It’s neat to be extra rewarded for that.

I really love the solo hurdy-gurdy version of the Monkey Island theme in Sea of Thieves. It sounds like uses just about the full range of a hurdy-gurdy and I imagine would take some real effort to play. It almost feels like an ur-version of the shanty that inspired the rest rather than the other way around.Also the drum when given the melody does yield some good whistling to make a pirate like Haggis McMutton proud and/or drive crazy. I appreciate that too.

Sure, I remember is Van Helgen’s ghost story, but Haggis McMutton is the funnier name and also he was voiced by my generation’s Scrooge McDuck. (The Scrooge McDuck who wasn’t a Time Lord. Though the Time Lord McDuck was great too.)

@ZachWeinersmith A half well thought argument I saw was that just-in-time logistics is inherently a failure to plan for long term outcomes. It would be nice if someone was thinking about the long term and preparing “toilet paper reserves” for emergencies. But I think they discount how relatively fast JIT processes adjusted and maybe didn’t waste as much on reserves we didn’t need for that particular crisis (bandaids or kryptonite or something).

Yeah, I definitely disabled the "next version" ability to quote toot my toots. I saw enough quote toot brigading to last a lifetime on the service formerly known as Birdsite and think I'd rather avoid the whole system.I know a lot of people have hope it will be different this time on Mastodon, but I don't have that much optimism and I like the idea to disable it ahead of time.
