@kisacatHi! I recognize myself in parts of that: I decided to test the fediverse "properly" this time. Previously (like 9 years ago) I created accounts, found no one I knew and went back to the big tech services. This time around I decided to try it out more proper, and ignore that most of my IRL/online friends are not on it, and make new friends whilst waiting for others. I signed up (or revived) on all the services, on public instances. Addictive indeed. Now, I actually like tinkering with servers, so 1 month later I now sit with one self hosted instance of Friendica and another for Pleroma. Loving it so far. It hasn't been glitch-free for sure. I would struggle right now to give "the best" advice to my other friends on where they (who are not me) should start. However, my Pleroma instance is just standing there, ticking away. No work at all, it just works. My Friendica instance I buggered up a bit (tried to swap database) but have gotten back on its feet. I really like Friendica, though I would probably say if one is not in to installing and admining servers/services, it probably is too much work for most people (though I like the concept of "optimal federation").I use Friendica and Pleroma for different purposes though, just like I use(d) Facebook and Twitter for different purposes. But mostly wanted to say "Hi and welcome" and "I hear you". :)

In my endevour of exploring #Fediverse services to see which might best be suited for me, I have come to #Misskey. I have to say I'm really quite impressed with the feature set and the general feel of it. It looks/feels amazing. I think I might have signed up my test account in Japan though, my connection to it is far from stable.

@ercanbrackAlso check out the reply @alex gave me a couple of weeks ago when I was exploring options. He summarized it quite well I think.https://joindiaspora.com/posts/b6cddbe0443a01392989002590d8e506#d0446be5-1460-13e5-00a4-90a280241412

@thor haha, I have wondered for quite a while why you are liking your own posts but have also been thinking it isn't my place to ask about it. I guess I just got the explanation. 😂

@thor oh, cool. I was thinking it would clog up notifications though. Perhaps one doesn't get notifications for own likes even if it is your own post?

@thor hehe, in Friendica, which I use mostly these days, it literally lists who has liked a post with names under the posts. Not much nosing around. :)

@tio FWIW I have the exact opposite problem: In my Friendica search I can only find people. It finds people really well even. That is however the absolutely only thing I can search for. I can't search for tags (i.e. #newhere), I can't search for open text strings (i.e. "football"). I can only search for users, if I have the full username. Any and all searches that isn't for a direct user name will generate a "no results found", even though I know there are posts on the topic I searched for as I can search for it on my Pleroma instance, and I mostly follow the same people on both services. To my understanding this is due to the fact I am using MySQL (as suggested by web site) instead of MariaDB (which is the preferred db for development going forward).Just thinking if you have MySQL instead of MariaDB it could be something related to that?

@heluecht @tio I have, today, ensured I have the latest RC branch on both main folder and addons. One thing that isn't completely clear to me is if doing a git checkout (and pull) on a branch does all the things needed though...? I mean, it doesn't feel like I have updated anything in relation to the database for example. When I look in the admin it seems happy enough though and clicking the "check db structure" or whatever it says reports back just fine. Is that it? Or am I missing some vital step somewhere?

@thor Haha, I have all the ways of saying things in UK English in my bone marrow by now, but honestly, it took me 11 years of living in the UK to get there. :D

@thorA lot of the English language is incomprehensible for Scandinavians (and, for example, Germans) as we are a lot more bluntly straight to the point, without making many excuses for that fact.Everyone else be like "oohh, the English are so polite!" just because they say "excuse me" or "sorry", or "it's fine", but if you care to listen HOW they say it you quickly realise politeness is not the reason they say it; it is habit. In their minds they are as insulting as the next (scandinavian) person.I would even say that most Scandinavians are more polite than the English, not due to language, but that we are smaller, as countries. We also realise we are not the only people on earth, and thus keep our minds, eyes and wits about us, and deliberately do not stop at the top of stairs, or in the middle of busy intersections, and thus do not have to say unecessary stuff like "sorry" and "it's fine" when we don't have to. We conserve energy for other things (like surviving long and cold fucking winters) as opposed to exchanging meaningless pleasantries. But hey, that is me. :D

@thorWhat my Linux mentor taught me 30 years ago: "Linux is only free if your time is worthless". :DDisclaimer: I've been a Linux user ever since, not because of it, but still, his words linger and is what drives me when looking for change and improvements.Disclaimer 2: I also use the other OS's.

Password storage. How do you (yes, YOU) organise your passwords in whatever tool you use?Categories? Alphabetically? Nesting of folders? I am moving services and have ended up in analysis-paralysis on how I should structure my passwords. I need to hear how you do it. :)
