@m0xee @kevinrothrock James Bond, Nathan whatsisname etc sure, but any human in a plummeting plane who can get a parachute on, get to the door, open it and jump out, not snag it... 🤷‍♂️

@tante I'm not sure that makes sense. You only need to handle that traffic because the services became centralised. If self hosted blogs etc had remained at the forefront it would have scaled fine.Agree that fedi isn't the answer, but it's not because it can't scale, it's for the same reason the web was centralised. Because it relies on services which are hard to self host. This is why I support fedi but put my effort into p2p. Eliminate servers and you make centralisation much, much harder.

@wjmaggos It's not fine at an individual level either for numerous reasons. One being the take it or leave it imposition of things which suit the provider but not all individuals. If there isn't choice and true consent, it is control and for many abuse.

@EC_OSPO sounds interesting but it's very unclear what this is, who it helps to and what is meant by support.I'm an independent #FOSS author in UK and very unhappy that Microsoft own so much OSS infrastructure, which in time they will subject to #enshittification. Will #OSPO provide alternative infrastructure and if so who will it help and guide? Thanks.#CERN

@tante yet another reason to support development of decentralised infrastructure and the means to pay the nodes run by individuals providing it.

@tante There are also unknown costs from deskilling individuals and loss of expertise which AI will not have - because humans don't just learn how to do what the AI takes over from them, the learning and understanding that lead to their skills goes much wider and deeper. And once the commons has stopped evolving current so called AI (LLMs) will stagnate, because humans will contribute less innovation add LLMs do not innovate.I expect dire long term consequences from chasing short term goals.

A friend who had two weeks of very bad #COVID a year ago has been off work for a month with it, but far worse and is still unwell. He told me that he had been seen at our local GP surgery, outside in his car because they wouldn't let him in with COVID symptoms. The paramedic Doctor told him that he couldn't say the name, but you and I know that this is. He said existing tests can't detect this because it has changed, and he's not allowed to name it.The UK is an Orwellian authoritarian state.

@ChrisMayLA6 cash also the only way to avoid invasive spying and that being used to manipulate and increase consumption against the will and interests of yourself and others.I use cash everywhere for this reason.I also use multiple Nectar cards but without registering any so I can get discounts and still minimise spying.

@mttaggart and isn't this at least de facto what Camp 1 are concerned about? That Meta and the fediverse are incompatible and that whether or not you believe Meta's motives are good (Camp 1: 🤣, Camp 2: 🤗) it's impact will be harmful.

@stux A problem with such a contentious issue is that opt-out is not consent, moreso as blocking is hard (in the past I tried twice in the web UI and gave up).So calling this choice is buying in to what on Facebook we call a dark pattern, the kind of trick that was prohibited under the GDPR which says a choice must be equally easy either way, and that defaults should err in favour of the user not the business.I'd like #Mastodon to allow federation choices to meet the bar of consent #Threads

As if #KeirStarmer couldn't get any worse, but today he says he shares the values of a far right Tory opportunist with a history that includes trying to influence a judge to keep her sex offender husband from being held to account. Not to mention her far right views and close alignment to Boris Johnson.#UKLabour is now a party that rejects an MP of integrity, Jeremy #Corbyn, but dishes out a cushy job to snag low lifes like Natalie #Elphicke.Yet he expects us to vote for his changed party.

#Biden / USA and #RushiSunak / UK are complicit in the mass killing of refugees overnight in #Gaza, and in much else. They have offered #Netanyahu a protective shield against the #ICC and so his war crimes and #genocide continue. This is also on you #DavidCameron, and your silence #KeirStarmer is shameful and racist. #Israel

@bitboxer #Mozilla are behaving like the rest of them and if they can't see that, they are screwed. And it has been obvious for some time that they can't see that.Perhaps now people will stop telling me I should use Firefox instead of Brave, when Firefox simply doesn't work well enough on my devices to be useful, regardless of their privacy f*ck ups.

Am I alone thinking Bezos':- Amazon logo looks like a penis- #BlueOrigin rocket *really* looks like a penis(and not that different from #Bezos when I see him next to it.)Or that selecting a bunch of very glam women to be the first all female crew to (almost) go into space for a few minutes, is a bit weird.I think he's a bit of a dick.

@mayohnyo Maybe it's just harder to moderate the largest instance? Maybe it attracts moderator trolls who make numerous reports. I had a toot censored a year ago for asking if we could call the genocide in Gaza a genocide yet. It didn't stop or distract me.Demonizing this instance doesn't help. I used to respect Fabio but he seems to have lost it just recently. Hopefully we can get back to criticising the genocide soon, because this is not helping the people in Gaza. @fabio

@fabio You may be right but this is not my experience. I've been extremely vocal and well ahead of the curve on my criticism and terminology on the Gaza genocide - for years - on Mastodon.social.I've had one toot censored. That's it. So my experience here does not support your assertions, while I have seen you demonising and using inflammatory language, which is not helpful in my experience. So I'll stay here where anti-genocide voices are needed and IME not censored.@mayohnyo
