@leo Thanks. I took your advice and donated to the server I'm on (which is mindly.social --> $50 CAD, which equals $35.80 USD, via paypal).

@jmondi @libcamera @fosdem @PINE64 What program are you using for this gif shot? I have a Pinephone Pro with Manjaro Plasma and also with Mobian. On them I use Megapixels for the camera. But, so far as I know, that program doesn't take videos/gifs, and the photos it takes are not as clear as what I see in your posted gif.

@grammargirl So far I've not caught covid. I do try to always wear a mask in indoor settings. But, given the increased social pressures to dine out, go to pubs, etc, it is difficult. Usually I try to wear a mask even within a pub or restaurant, and lift up or remove the mask simply to consume food/drink, putting it back in place after each gulp/drink, but this is an effort.

Whenever I wear an N95 mask out in public, people always ask, "are you sick?" Uh, no, I'm not sick. Likewise, when I'm riding a bicycle and wearing a helmet, it is not because I have a head injury.#Covid19

The last time I tried to upgrade my Manjaro-Plasma Pinephone Pro, it broke. So, I'm hoping this recent upgrade will work. This is an experimental Linux phone, so I'm running Testing to just give feedback to the developers.[edit] No, it's still broken.https://forum.manjaro.org/t/arm-testing-update-2023-10-13-kde-frameworks-gnome-45-firefox-thunderbird-pipewire-qt5/149615/2#PinephonePro #Linux #ManjaroLinuxARM

I remember when Pine64 announced that the default operating system would be Manjaro Plasma for the Pinephone Pro (see link).https://www.pine64.org/pinephonepro/>The default operating system for the PinePhone Pro is Manjaro Linux with KDE Plasma MobileI decided to buy one and join the Manjaro Forum to give feedback to help out. Now, however, I'm told:>currently we more or less don’t maintain any Plasma-Mobile profile for the Pinephone(Pro).https://forum.manjaro.org/t/arm-testing-update-2023-10-13-kde-frameworks-gnome-45-firefox-thunderbird-pipewire-qt5/149615/22Hmm.#PinephonePro #Linux

So, I set up my Pinephone Pro with PostmarketOS and Mrtest to help do some testing. I also requested an account on their wiki so I can make notes in the chart there. And I signed up with Matrix to get details of future service pack releases.https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Testing_Team#PinephonePro #PostmarketOS #Linux

Well, my LineageOS phone just died (in essence, my Android phone just died). So I'm now using my Pinephone Pro Linux phone. It's running postmarketOS plasma. So far, it automatically set up the SIM card fine. So, I'm getting texts from friends (via the app "Spacebar"). I'm even getting the group texts, which is good. However, even though I'm getting these, it says:"No MMSC configured".Anyone have any idea what this means? And what I should do about it?#PinephonePro #postmarketOS

So, I went to settings in Spacebar (the text app of Plasma) and set up MMSC in accordance with my provider (see link).https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/on/get-help/articles/set-up-data-on-an-android-phoneThis caused me to no longer get the group messages. Instead, I'd receive everything individually, but I'd be unable to read them. And I don't think the group got my message that I sent. So, I've switched to trying out Mobian (Phosh) and its program "Chats". That seems to be working, though I don't know if they got the text I just sent.#Mobian

To continue, I have Mobian on an SD card, and postmarketOS (plasma) on the main drive. So, on POS, I'm now getting a notification that "Your Home folder is running out of disk space, you have 198 MiB remaining (7%)."Given that I just installed it and have downloaded nothing, I have no idea where this is coming from. While I prefer how Plasma looks, I think it just has too many issues. I think I'll just switch to Mobian (phosh). And I'm more familiar with Debian.#PinephonePro #Linux

Regarding the size of the drive, I found this here:https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/2299Apparently there's some command that might fix the drive space issue, but, well, then there's the messaging issues as well.I note this is the case in postmarketOS with both plasma and phosh. Well, I'm now going to install Mobian stable on the main drive, and keep Mobian unstable on the SD card.#PinephonePro #Linux #Mobian

@bart The thing is, it's important for me to get texting at least half working (at least until I get a replacement LineageOS phone), just so I don't miss notifications of shifts (happens a lot given the precarious nature of my job).Anyway, I did go back to postmarketOS, since Mobian was being unruly with me. I now have the stable version installed. And I have joined the Matrix channel (via element) to get help. And I'll be sure to submit bugs on their issues page.https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues

@slashdot I remember spending a truckload of money on a Windows 95 computer, and it became absolutely unusable a few years later due to malware and viruses. So, I swore I'd never be sucked in again, and spent a fraction of that on a better used computer, on which I installed Corel Linux, from a promo that a store gave out free. I then tried SuSE, Mandrake, (both bought in stores), Libranet, Knoppix, and, with the release of Sarge, settled on Debian. It was an exciting time.

Interesting story on the tech startup WeWork. And the article includes quotes from Cory Doctorow on the process of "enshittification". Recommended.https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/armstrong-start-ups-wework-uber-1.7032264@pluralistic#enshittification #CBC #tech #WeWork #gigwork #business
