As an open source maintainer, I will say this. Probably the easiest thing you can contribute to an open source project is appreciation and encouragement. After maintaining even a relatively successful project for a while, positive feedback becomes an invaluable source of motivation.Especially now, as I'm heading into another winter in complete darkness, I thank you for all the kind words! โค๏ธ

Just to clarify, I've never contributed to Mastodon and I'm certainly not maintaining it ๐

Does anyone know how "Books" works in #ReadwiseReader? Can I connect my Kindle account somehow? It's not yet listed under Integrations.

@krishagel I connected Kindle on the Readwise website, and managed to sync them, but they don't show up in Reader. Seems like I need to manually sync Kindle highlights using a Chrome extension? I imagine it's a limitation with Kindle rather than Readwise tbh.Seems like I might as well stick with the Obsidian Kindle plugin then.

@nicole @krishagel That does makes a lot of sense. I realize now I've mistaken Reader for a next generation of Readwise, where it's really a complementary service.I had hoped that I could replace the Obsidian Kindle plugin with Readwise, but seems like you don't really gain anything, since you still need to manually sync highlights using the Chrome extension.

@nicole @krishagel From Readwise to Obsidian, yes. But from what I understand, you need to manually sync from Kindle to Readwise, no?

@nicole @krishagel Ah! Reading closer, seems like the Chrome extension syncs automatically as long as you keep your browser running.

Been trying the @omnivore plugin for #ObsidianMD, and I think I've finally have the workflow I want!I know many seem to only sync the highlights from similar products, but I really like the experience of writing notes for each highlight as I'm reading the article in Omnivore. The Omnivore plugin then creates a file with both highlights and notes in my vault, making it super-easy to reference from my permanent notes.

@shonatiger Created an account for Readwise Reader, and from what I can tell it's just as smooth ๐Will continue to explore Reader over the next few days! First reaction is I really how keyboard-friendly it is!

@omnivore What I really like about Reader is the keyboard navigation within the article view, which lets me highlight and take notes with H and N, without having to create a text selection with the mouse.I like being able to navigate back to the list view from article view by pressing Esc.I also like being able to navigate between filter views using 1โ9, but I can't tell if it's something I'd continue using long-term.

@omnivore That being said, I went back and experimented with keyboard shortcuts in Omnivore, and realized there are several of shortcuts that aren't yet documented, such as deleting (#), archiving (E), and labeling (L).

@post Good to hear! You can customize the template for Obsidian as well, though I find the default template pretty good.

When I started using #ObsidianMD, I had all my notes in the root of my vault. Without realizing at first, this led to my vault started filling up with fleeting notes that didn't make much sense.Today I use the vault root as my inbox. Unless I figure out a better place for the notes, I eventually delete them. It introduces a slight friction to prevent me from filling up my vault with garbage.I know some use tags to track note lifecycles, but I like the simplicity and visibility it gives me.

@nicole Hah, it's my scratchpad. Sometimes I just need a place to paste some text. If I think there's a slightest possibility that I might want to access it in the future, I'll move it to a better folder. Not to cause you further grief, but I regularly clean up permanent notes as well ๐I use my vault as a thinking environment rather than an archive, and prefer to cut the weed every now and then.
