I just want a nice space where trans women can chill and discuss the unique ways in which we're affected by patriarchy without being accused of wanting to commit mass murder. The only thing I've learned from this is that nobody really understands or cares about trans women and most queers see transition as a purely aesthetic preference without any political implications.

@chj0 Broadly speaking I agree but I've encountered a significant minority of trans men whose behavior would seem to indicate otherwise. This wouldn't be a problem except that they seem to wield a disproportionate amount of power in queer/feminist spaces and seem all too happy to dogpile 'bad' trans women who are critical of men. I think the divide here is inevitable. We all experience gendered socialization as a violently imposed form of trauma but in different ways. From the perspective of many trans women, making the choice to accept male citizenship within the context of patriarchal society is to occupy an inherently violent political position. Growing up it meant committing acts of emotional and physical violence against yourself and others for the maintenace of patriarchy.The friction arises when a subset of people insists that actually all genders are the same and exist completely divorced from their sociobiological context and we can sanitize manhood by making it soft and uwu. It's not that womanhood is inherently good or particularly desirable because being recognized as a woman (or even merely a not-man in many contexts) openly marks you for violence. It's that we're tired of these lame ass attempts to rehabilitate patriarchy.

The fact that Linux can even run Windows applications is kind of an anti-feature imo. You can argue that realpolitik demands some level of compromise, but if being a cross-compatible platform is your only goal technically there's no reason that macOS or Windows couldn't fill the same niche. Basically it isn't a terribly convincing for someone to invest learning a different platform from the one they're already familiar with.And it's unfortunate because instead of challenging software companies to treat free software operating systems as first class citizens and finding more creative ways of monetizing software, solutions like Wine and Darling increasingly seem as if they're simply making the FOSS ecosystem more reliant on backwards engineering poorly documented proprietary APIs and calling it 'good enough'.

@parity Yeah like I definitely think Wine has it's place in terms of software preservation because there are a ton of 20, 25 and 30 year old applications that (mercifully) no longer run under Windows natively. And it is nice that developers put at least some thought into getting games running through Proton, but I would prefer if it forced companies to think about the kind of tools they're using and convinced them to choose more portable frameworks.

@WYL I don't know what to think. Shit like this just happens sometimes and I have no idea why. Creeps honk at me or try to get me to go places with them. On a couple occasions I've been aggressively followed and had to get help from someone else. In no universe is this acceptable behavior.
