Where are all the reverse engineers, compiler devs, and OS devs at!? There must be some people interested in this stuff around these parts...(Please don't recommend hashtags. It's an intentional omission, to avoid the "hacker bros".)

You know, sometimes I think the programmer bros don't actually like programming...They're all like "Noooo!!! [...] is not a programming language!" and "[...] sucks!" and "You're not a real programmer unless you [...]!!!".Meanwhile I'm like...*writing C* Awesome!*writing Python* Love it!*writing ASM* Heck yeah!*writing Rust* Excellent!*writing CSS* This rules!*writing x86 hex* Very cool!*writing HTML* Da bomb!*writing GLSL* Let's go!They're all good and bad for something. Chill out.

@foone Too many (or too few, depending on your perspective).

It always gets me how my phone keyboard insists on autocorrecting "webfinger" to "we finger".

Ok, this is quite funny...I stumbled upon this LD_PRELOAD "privilege escalation" article 🤨The article starts by editing /etc/sudoers... but it's ok... it's only for lab setup...The "lab setup":`Defaults env_keep += LD_PRELOAD` 🤭https://www.hackingarticles.in/linux-privilege-escalation-using-ld_preload/

@mcc I have *thoughts*.I've recently been writing endlessly in this general area, but still haven't been able to turn it into something cohesive and digestible.I think a core issue with *both* these terms and the surrounding frameworks is that:- The apparent objectives are not the actual objectives.- The frameworks don't accomplish the apparent objectives.- The frameworks don't accomplish the actual objectives either.

@puppygirlhornypost2 to be fair, you do type really fast, so your reaction times approach automated systems.

@puppygirlhornypost2 Yeah, the whole point is to stop delineating "acceptable" identities altogether, not to just move the line slightly. As long as the line exists, it will exclude people, and can be moved back to exclude *more* people. We must *abolish* the line!"But I don't understand..." So what!? I don't understand a bunch of stuff, but that doesn't mean I go around advocating against it! We can't just reject everything we don't personally understand. That's not how anything works.

@foone Too real! I'm not even a reverse engineer, but I've frequently found it easier to just look at a binary than to find my way through some cursed codebase.

Regular reminder that patriarchy hurts everyone, and that feminism does not oppose men.

@FiringSquadsEnjoyer @Ezzy @lizzy @kimaprIt's wild to see such statements in transfem circles. This is an egregious distortion of (radical) feminism. It has never been about "hating/opposing men" (that's meme feminism).Feminism opposes *patriarchy*, which benefits (overwhelmingly cis) men to varying degrees, while hurting people of *all* genders (some more than others).Transfems, of all people, should be acutely aware of how counterproductive it is to oppose (those seen as) men.

@FiringSquadsEnjoyer @Ezzy @lizzy @kimaprI get the transfem urge to reject maleness entirely, but extending this beyond oneself only causes harm.A good faith argument can be made that patriarchy benefits *some* trans men in *some* ways, but this is at the level of nuance where we'd also talk about how it benefits *some* trans women in *some* ways, as well as how it harms cis men in *some* ways. However, this is a counterproductive focus, as overwhelmingly, patriarchy *harms* the former two.

@FiringSquadsEnjoyer @Ezzy @lizzy @kimaprAddendum: I hesitated writing this, as "trans women benefit from patriarchy" is constantly used against us, in ways that are absurd and lack any nuance. This is *not* the point I'm making! Trans women are, *overwhelmingly*, harmed by patriarchy.Such discussions need to be extremely careful, but I felt I had to make this parallel, lest trans men get thrown under the bus (they can speak for themselves, but this argument would be weaker from a man).

I don't get why infosec people make such a fuss about access scopes and permissions... doesn't everyone know that once initial entry has been achieved, full access is just a matter of using `moon privilege escalation` to force a system refresh?

@brettm Well, I'm sorry to say, but `moon privilege escalation` goes right through your 700 file-system permissions (assuming your system is at a low enough energy state, of course).(this is a joke)

@foone perhaps because of a lack of well-defined calling conventions, making register wrangling an unnecessarily stressful ordeal. Or maybe just because calling a function without arguments requires slightly less typing. All entirely legitimate reasons! /j

@foone relatedly, but somewhat reversed, it was not ideal when I tried unplugging an ethernet cable by just pulling harder, because I couldn't see what I was doing, and thought it was an unusually stuck USB cable.Thankfully I realised before any damage was done, but I wasn't thrilled to have that close call (though it is kinda fascinating that I ran into a specific set of conditions conducive to mixing up USB and RJ45 by feel in the first place).

Out of touch things tech bros say #830635626148257: "Storage/RAM is cheap"Just because storage and RAM cost you a fraction of the price of the other components in your gaming rig, doesn't mean those things are actually cheap!Firstly, you're confused about relative cost vs absolute cost. Secondly, you're forgetting that not all computers are designed for the very same purpose.
