I showed EXTREME restraint not adding the nearly-10-minute version of Summertime Love.

Anti-drag bill quickly rushed through the Senate successfully. They know they don't have support and they're fucking scared so they're rushing this stuff through with no notice as quickly as they can. They're scared, and they should stay scared.

The dems in the background giving each other extremely sad hugs. The republicans would not be doing this if they lost the vote. Because they don't actually care about any of this.

Guarantee you not a single one of these people have shed a single tear over the thought of trans kids getting affirming care. It doesn't actually made them sad. They don't actually believe any of this. Oh sure, the hate is real, but they don't actually think of it as harm towards children. They're just upset that kids are living their own queer lives. The only way any of these liars would shed tears over this is if their OWN kid was trans, because of how upset they'd be that they couldn't do anything about it. They won't cry when trans kids kill themselves, they won't be worried about irreparable harm then. Because it's all faux concern.

The problem isn't trans kids transitioning, getting puberty blockers, etc. That's not actually what the republicans are upset about. They don't care about queer kids or what happens to their bodies. The problem is that THEIR kids will go to school with them, and might learn to love and respect them. And they can't have that. They have to make sure their kids don't see trans kids, don't see drag queens. Their kids can't get the wild idea that queer people might be people, and even worse, their kids can't get the idea that they might be loved and supported if they themselves are queer. It's not about the trans kids, it's about their own kids being disgusted at their parents' bigotry and accepting people for who they are. The only way to fight the fact that the youth don't support them is to keep them as ignorant as possible.

I edited the headline of this Onion article to make fun of a terf and when I went to check the date I learned that today is the 20th annivesary of one of the best pieces The Onion ever put out. Amazing coincidence.https://www.theonion.com/this-war-will-destabilize-the-entire-mideast-region-and-1819594296

I need tech nerds online to understand something:LMGTFY was only meant to be used for things that actually give you quick results when you Google them, something that is less and less common these days with how bad Google is, and was never the case for obscure niche answers.RTFM requires there to be a manual with the answers in the first place. If these conditions aren't met then you're just showing you're an asshole that doesn't know the answer.

Honestly I'd say neither of these are appropriate to use and are always hostile actions. But I at least sympathize with the communities that get flooded with easy questions that you absolutely could have googled that get frustrated. At some point antisocial nerds started seeing this and decided it was the cool smug answer to anyone asking a question.

@ChronRevisited I read the manual to my Windows 95 Toshiba laptop and I genuinely think it would be amazing required reading for anyone interested in how computers work because I swear that manual starts you from never touching a computer to everything you'd want to know about using one and most of it still applies (to windows anyway)

@kingu There's also the fact that if you only speak english, you're never going to be looking at the parts of the internet that aren't in English.Reminds me of seeing people that say "well I never hear Japanese people talk about [hot social issue]!" Yeah...you don't speak Japanese, that's why, if you did you'd find out those little lines on the screen are talking about [hot social issue].

Entirely unsurprised that #Neeva couldn't make search profitable enough. Nobody can. Pivoting to AI bullshit is just gonna be a grift until they run out of VC.So, what do I do for search now? And don't say Kagi. I really like being able to rank results, does DDG let you do that or do I just give up and go back to Bing/Google hybrid and be disappointed with both?

Okay before I tear my hair out, can someone more versed in #Linux than me tell me why a device that was showing up just fine at ttyUSB1, and still does so on another Linux machine (so the device and the cable are fine), would stop doing so the next day.

Another question from someone who knows enough to use #Linux as a daily driver but is hardly a Linux pro: my OS lets me back up whatever folders I want to restore later in the case of some sort of failure. Aside from my personal files, are there any specific Linux config files/folders that would be smart to back up in case I somehow fuck them up later? Like I know one day I fucked my $PATH up with a typo, luckily that wasn't the hardest to fix but if you were going to pick some system level stuff to back up to be able to restore later, what sorts of things would you include?

Is anyone familiar with this #PalmOS game? It's unfortunately called Empire, which is the name of a lot of other old video games. This Palm version is in English and French, the English version having a choppy translation. It's a turn based game where you're trying to grow your empire and take out the other players, each turn you have to get your people fed, then spend whatever money you have on upgrades, then can attack the other empires to take their land.I'm curious if it's a remake/port of something on another platform, because I'd love to know if it exists elsewhere.#Palm #PDA

I know this is always a longshot but since a lot of you are Tech People and probably a lot of you spend a lot of time digging around stuff for sale, if anyone at any point sees one of these old Lian Li PC-U6 (Cowry) cases for sale, please light the bat signal for me because I have been trying to find one of these for quite a while. I didn't have the money for one when they were new ten thousand years ago and finding one in the modern day has not been easy. Maybe if I post about it enough eventually someone will see one somewhere and go "wait, someone was looking for one of those". Then not be able to find my post again probably. But y'know.#pc #computers #pcbuilding #tech

I saw a thread the other day basically talking about how we need to bring back Yahoo style directories and the best way to go about that and I think a lot of people are trying to way over engineer it.Why not start small? If you have a blog, make your own page with a directory of your best sources for the topics that interest you. Then we either webring that shit or compile them later. But this is something you can start with now, you can go out this week and compile your best sources. You can link to other people's directories you find useful and create a network. Then if someone wants to curate all that into "Xahoo.com" later then we've got a head start. We don't need to fuss around over the tech, we need the information.
