@xj9 @SarcasmKid Oh, I like the label techno-primitivism. I think I'll start using that to describe how a lot of my thoughts on the bisection of technology and rural life.Pure primitivism always seemed to have a blind spot that never solved the scarcity problem or just how horrible a civilization unable to produce antibiotics or vaccines would be.

@tauli I blame FB pushing users to equate "social media" online with "socializing with people you know offline." My online network really shrunk over that time as I went from regularly chatting with strangers in Europe, Asia and Latin America to only my local physical communities. The pseudonymous era really encouraged a much more diverse mixing of the political, social, and global spectrum. People who otherwise wouldn't have been inclined to interact IRL.

@djsumdog @ekaitz_zarraga @xiroux I'm still a little disappointed in Python's docs. It's a great language, but I wish they would be more expressive and add more examples in for the beginner. I mean compare Python's documentation for abs() vs PHP's:https://docs.python.org/3/library/functions.html#abshttps://secure.php.net/manual/en/function.abs.phpThe fact that PHP has example code for every function in it's standard lib is one of the things it did get right.

@DeeUnderscore Now I'm wondering what it would be like if I actually used Mastodon as a way to pipe real-time system logs.

@kemonine @FerdiZ I've often advised that WordPress itself is fine. The Plugin library however is a landmine of poorly implemented crap.

I need to start reading the local timeline again and finding some new folks to follow because I just realized that my home timeline has really just become @ajroach42 and @kemonine

@kemonine @ajroach42 I go on bored spurts then go silent for a month.I think a lot of folks moved during that push to disperse from mastodon.social and I just never noticed where they all went.

@ajroach42 And of course bars in the U.S. have become noisy loud affairs. Music and televisions blaring so all you can do is drink your beer -- you'll need to step outside if you want to actually socialize.I've really liked the kinds of places you find in Wisconsin. Quite snowed-in hole in the walls. Often with the best pizza and burgers for miles.Rural parts of Ireland also seem to get that right.

@Wolf480pl @ekaitz_zarraga @codesections Look into researchers coming more out of the analytical philosophy mode. They tend to push more towards the idea of reducing language into formal proofs.

I wish there was a multi-screen version of tmux.I'd like to have a tmux session where a second terminal window is open on a second screen open to a different tmux window.I can kind of do this by opening two terminal windows, but there's no easy way to switch between them and they can't both be on the same tmux session or they'd be showing the same thing.I'd want them to share the session but have their own windows/panes...

@piggo Screens are different sizes and resolutions so that doesn't quite work.

@debugninja @thegibson If you're in the US do it. It's really the internet as it damn well should've been -- static ips, all ports open. Can even get better upload speeds.I'd pay for it even if I wasn't working from home and needed it for the office.

@Wolf480pl Now I'm having flashbacks.I remember Microsoft transitioning more and more settings behind automagical wizards that never actually did what they purported and were a pain when you actually knew the settings (particularly for networking) that you wanted to set up.
