I've seen a number of toots about people being asked to pay for their #COVID19 #Booster - YLE has clarification:"There are many reports that people are being asked to pay for their Covid-19 vaccines. To be clear: no one should be paying for a vaccine.Private insurance companies are mandated to cover this vaccine with no copay. What has changed since last year? Insurers are no longer required to pay for “out-of-network”. You may need to get your vaccine at your doctor’s office if your pharmacy is not in-network with your insurance plan.Uninsured or underinsured adults: CVS/Walgreens are required by federal law to cover your vaccine at no cost to you, thanks to the new Bridge Program. This is just for Covid-19, not for RSV, unfortunately.Uninsured or underinsured kids: Vaccines for Children cover all kid’s vaccines, not just Covid-19, for those that cannot pay."https://yourlocalepidemiologist.substack.com/p/updated-2023-fall-vaccine-chart

Got my wetware upgrade this afternoon. Arm doesn't hurt (yet), but I'm definitely going to sleep well tonight! 😴#COVID #vaccination #booster

So... I had my first confirmed #COVID exposure last night - after all the months of isolating, masking, serial testing etc. we have been, and still are, keeping up.I hosted an HOA committee meeting - seven of us total. We were holding these meetings outside on my back deck until the weather got too cold, and then I offered to host in our sunroom, since I wanted to keep participating and figured that would give me more control over the environment. We had the doors closed to isolate the sunroom + guest bath from the rest of the house, our big HEPA filter in the sunroom plus little HEPA filter in the bathroom, Nukit far-UVC lights on a table in the middle facing us, and everyone wearing high-quality (N95 or equivalent) masks.

For those of you still COVID-testing regularly - there's a new option home available, and it's both accurate and relatively affordable! We just got a bundle of Metrix tests and a free reader:https://shop.aptitudemedical.com/products/metrix%E2%84%A2-covid-19-test-reader-bundleMuch more accurate than antigen tests - 96.7% sensitivity (accuracy of a negative test) and 99% specificity (accuracy of a positive test), which is similar to other molecular tests such as Lucira & Cue. I like that the clinical studies included asymptomatic infections, too!At $25/test, it's less expensive than other molecular tests - one Metrix test ends up being about 2x the cost of one antigen test. Given that we've been serial testing with the RATs, it's a wash for us... Tests are also available on Amazon - can be ordered individually, and the reader is $35 unbundled.More details:https://nitter.net/Clean_Air_Club_/status/1728097278668189713 https://scribe.rip/dibellatron/which-high-quality-covid-test-should-you-buy-3f2cd38f6e3c#COVID #COVID19 #CovidIsNotOver @novid @violetblue

WTF is it with me and travel this year?In April, @mbroome & I drove down to Austin to visit friends for the eclipse and spent three days afterwards driving from TX to WV through relentless rain with tornado and flood warnings. ⛈️In July we visited friends in Michigan for three days of fun on their boat - and the remnants of Hurricane Beryl visited at the same time. 🙄This Thursday, I'm driving down to Mom's (for the third week in a row!) so she & I can fly from Charlotte to Chicago on Friday for a family reunion with our relatives on her side. And, well... 😬

The weather gods have cursed me *again*. Out at Whiteside Mtn with my El Cap rope team for our annual 700' rappel & rope ascent weekend - and Tropical Storm Francine is giving us the crappiest weather we've had for it in years... Alternating blowing mist & spitting rain, which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't also 55°F and 25mph winds. Brr! 🥶@mbroome and I got in one dry bounce (down & back up) yesterday before all this rolled in. He went down to sort out rope pads this morning, and I'm debating whether I'm masochistic enough to get on rope again in this mess... 😨

We knew we were in for it when we pulled the weather forecast on Tuesday, the day before we left for 4 days of primitive camping... So at least we have full rain gear, pack covers for the hike up, and a tarp for a little shelter at the top. But I am seriously questioning my life choices for this weekend. 🌧️💨🙄

We had an unexpected visitor while hanging out at the top! Don't think he wanted to get on rope, though.

After two and a half solid days of rappel and rope ascent in gusting wind and blowing rain, the clouds finally blew through enough to get some really nice views off Whiteside Mountain. Hello, sunshine!! ⛰️🌤️
