@simon echo without `-e` will not produce a zero byte; your code sample should be `echo -ne 'abc\0'`

@simon (one of the many reasons to prefer `printf` to `echo`!)

@simon No, I tried and didn’t find it useful (doesn’t really fit any of your categories)

@simon tiny nit: `readarray` is a bash builtin not a program you're missing, you're using an old bash that doesn't have it. Mac's default bash is 3.2 from 2007, current is 5.2 and `readarray` got built in around 4.something

@simon I can strongly recommend using a newer bash for any bash scripting, bash has improved a ton in the intervening 16(!) years.I wish Apple would either stop shipping that copy or update it, but they refuse to update any GPL code and instead leave it in limbo.

@simon oh - which is also why I recommend `#!/usr/bin/env bash` as the shebang line instead of `/bin/bash`! for me, the former will pick up the bash I use (`/opt/homebrew/bin/bash`, and the latter will load apple's ancient copy that SIP prevents me from moving (without resorting to serious hackery))

@simon Actually, changing the shebang might even make the first version of that code work for you - it may only have failed because `/bin/bash` is the old bash version and `env` would point to a newer bash that you may have on your system

@simon @migurski simple upgrades are entirely automated through the tool - run a command, it asks a few questions, then opens up a PR for you

@simon I don't know if they stream responses, but I used curl's `--nobuffer` and jq's `--unbuffered` to stream to the console with openai's API, it gives a lot better feel to the UI if available.https://github.com/llimllib/gpt-bash-cli/blob/587b790d90b671876a8d9d08848c2370e87dd84b/gpt#L180-L188

@interfluidity @Rickperlstein Ratchets, as all positive feedback loops, eventually break down. The problem is that it's impossible to predict when or why they will, and they seem inescapable when they're in force(This is my attempt at hope re: the authoritarian ratchet)

@interfluidity isn't respecting the rule of law accepting and paying your ticket if you get caught speeding, rather than not speeding at all?

@interfluidity What operating system?notepad++ on windows and vs code would probably be my recommendations, vs code is big overkill but reasonably easy to install

@interfluidity My crank idea is for us to mandate customer service requirements for services like google, twitter, facebook et al.Those are expensive! If you want to be a giant internet gorilla, you have to be able to pay for quality customer support
