@nyx @voidandnil That is part of why Clasp's relatively small implementation team (and time) has surprised me.But a single person is considerably more labor to handle on one's own, indeed.@allison is probably right there.

@djsumdog @reiddragon @aparrish Mostly not mine directly, but that's pretty much going to happen because we collectively stupidly let silicon manufacture concentrate into a few foreign companies, nevermind how that creates major risks should they be destroyed in some way or other. While I will admit that every-nation autarky would be impractical for computer manufacture, it would very much be possible to decentralize it more.

@djsumdog @reiddragon @aparrish Regarding the refining, at least it *can* be done with other sources. Just at considerable cost.Nevertheless the difficulties in refining make me question whether we really should be focusing so much on silicon computing.

Monetary-gating is no more effective than dynamic reputation assessment, but it sure is a lot more exclusionary.Pretty much the first red flag with Urbit in isolation (it gets worse when one reads on the community & everything else; predictably a lot of its issues, including the monetary-gating, flow naturally from the creator's ideas). Its documentation makes some very vague promises but it doesn't really seem to do much for something that calls itself an "overlay OS".

For an actually serious overlay OS/desktop, take a look at ArcanFE/Durden instead.

@GrapheneOS @fabio Is there a reason other than laziness why they don't reverse-engineer the firmware and write their own libre one?

@crying_drekavac @GrapheneOS @fabio A statically malicious (or so faulty it might as well be malicious) device is still malicious and still infringes on the freedom of the user, just in a different way.Rather, in being static it prevents the user from fixing it.

@wolf480pl @nytpu Presumably one could just fill up the emptied space with sand or something.

That would actually be an interesting option. Just all medical staff refusing service to anyone employed by police or ICE.

@Pi_rat The Hippocrates oath has a bunch of hypocritical nonsense in it though.Enabling abusers to continue harming (without ensuring some circumstances will ensure they cannot even if one treats them) is doing harm, for example.(Which is one of the many reasons why its popularity is rapidly fading. The paternalist agency & autonomy-ignoring parts too.)

@sally Forcing your surgeon to work on you is a good way for them to forget anaesthesia, overdose it or forget objects inside (or improperly sterilize tools).Malicious compliance is very possible.

@sally Nosocomial infections are common enough to not be a clear sign unless there's a pattern over a significant amount of time. The presence of intruders that did not go through adequate sterilization procedures would also increase the risk of contamination.Besides, hospitals have equipment to dispose of biowaste, such as fascists.

@sally The authoritarian jackboots are fascists as anarchists define them. They have not all been killed yet. I'm actually very puzzled at how few have.

@N33R I think there are circuit simulators usable for this?I don't really do much electronics though, too expensive.

@sally There's no need to prevaricate, you understand perfectly what was meant. The initial description in itself is a decent conceptual yardstick. The necessary archetypes can be drawn out easily-enough.

@cell @yura BS1363 actually seems superior to basically all the other options I've seen with similar wattage ratings.Having a switch at the outlet itself is also a very nice feature. The ring circuit nonsense is awful though.
