Scrolling on Mastodon is a joy after my doomscrolling days on the blue bird site. Is joyscrolling a thing now?

@futurebird @sashin @Bron1954 do your ant colonies hibernate even though they don't experience winter?

@futurebird I feel like toaster belongs on this list but in it's absence I just have kettle and dishwasher (tiny countertop dishwasher)

@futurebird oh my toaster is never put away, I use it daily, sometimes multiple times a day. I may have a toast obsession.

@Suiseiseki @itsfoss I would argue that open source was a thing, it just didn't have a name yet.

@futurebird I was on vacation when this happened and I didn't want to fly home. The day I got home I joined a progressive live stream about next steps, but it all felt like tilting at windmills so I quit it and went to bed. So yeah, we need time to rest and absorb what's happened. I'm not sure we have that luxury though.

Realising I know very little about my chosen instance. Who runs social.linux.pizza? How is it funded? Where is it hosted? What is the infrastructure?

the admin email address is Swedish, the domain is registered in Iceland and a traceroute shows it's hosted in Germany. So, not American at least...

@futurebird "writing efficient code" is almost meaningless unless you set goals. Some goals might be: * must provide a response within 3 seconds * must not use more than 50mb ram * must process 100 database records per second * must render as a webpage within 3 millisecondsOnce you have a goal you can start optimising your code (and possibly related infrastructure) to meet that goal.
