@stux Yeah. If you must cross the border, don't bring your primary phone. Although I'm told that CBP has been told to treat the absence of a phone itself as a matter of suspicion, so you can expect some aggressive treatment if you have no phone to search.La Migra has never given me personally trouble at the airport or border, but I haven't flown during this administration. Previously, the most invasive they got with me was at a temporary highway checkpoint when driving between San Diego and Phoenix. Because our lovely courts have decided that everywhere within 100 miles of the border, warrantless search & seizure is "reasonable" in terms of the 4th amendment. Also, fully 2/3rds of the population and most major cities are within that 100 mile zone.

@foone so is the hub just being used as a repeater, or is it actually driving multiple ports/devices?

@N33R I work at a big multinational enterprise servers/infrastructure/etc company. Overheard one of the support guys laying out the biggest customers.Lump all the various federal contractors together and combined they're the biggest customer, by far. Not the federal government directly, but all their various contractors and service providers (and we know that's who they're providing services for because we have to provide them with all kinds of security/crypto certifications that only the feds care about). Then it was like, apple, Facebook, Netflix, etc.So I understand why all these guys want to site their stuff close to their own primary customer but dear god that's creating one hell of a single point of failure

@stib It didn't work because sftp is a completely different protocol from ftp, that is based on ssh.Ftps is what you're thinking of, that's the one that's just ftp on a TLS connection.Glad you found curl to save the day. Wget is also handy because it has a recursive option that will grab every link from a given webpage or public directory.

@foone Ugh, Ubuntu upgrades. How is it that upgrading slackware in 2000 was somehow less painful than upgrading Ubuntu today.

@futurebird @selzero This, the SNAP freeze, is what my governor and his allies are suing the feds over. The money is there. The law says they have to use it. They're making an intentional decision not to, even as they move heaven and earth to illegally keep paychecks flowing to their gestapo.

@foone I'm trying and trying to figure out what exactly my Washington state "Good to Go" RFID sticker is, and I'm just coming up empty. Which probably means it's some proprietary standard from the toll collection vendor.

@foone I'd agree with that. An athlon or PIII around the switch to PCI and on-die cache would be a good generation marker post-386, pre-AMD64

@N33RIf I didn't have recent ancestors who spoke low german exclusively, I'd think both German and Dutch languages were elaborate pranks
