My bank sent me an "Action required: is this still your email address?" and told me that "it seems you haven't been getting our emails"but I have been getting all their emails. What I haven't been doing is allowing images to load, which is probably how they track opens.

Under no circumstances will I ever call anything I do "content creation."That term was invented by the big tech platforms to devalue writing, art, video & audio production, etc.Be a writer, a streamer, an artist, a short film maker, a musician, a podcaster, or a blogger. But please don't be a "content creator." You're worth more than that.

The Open Directory Project, or DMOZ, was a massive directory of websites, sorted into categories, with human curators managing individual categories and responding to submissions. webrings are another idea that I think really deserves a new look in this modern era. personal homepages with links pages too. We have to create ways to find our way around the web without the assistance of ad companies.

I remain committed as ever to remaining on fedi and promoting the idea of decentralized, non corporate ways of developing and maintaining our social connections. There will always be people who look at a space without centralized authority and think "you know what this place needs? cops." And we will have to fight that over and over again.Build communities on here. When you see a bad actor, your community should be able to decide for itself what action to take. Anyone offering to do that work for your community is at best incompetent and at worst malicious.
