@Gina I don't know if everyone does here in Sweden but we all did at my school. We also had a survivor from Auschwitz come give a talk (he ended up in Sweden after the war), which also blows my mind now that I think of it that my kid won't be able to experience that.I think it helps you feel connected to historical events to talk to someone who was actually there. I certainly remember WWII seeming more real after that talk, before it was just, you know, history.

@sir that's not really a huge bar to clear though.Reading a medium.com article via a script that blinks morse code at you via your keyboard's numlock status light is a better experience than reading on medium.com.

@Gina I can't put into words how much I love the comment about it feeling unnatural because it's too woke compared to real life.Like, have you stopped to consider that maybe that's the whole fucking problem to begin with?!

@wholesomedonut @Gina it's nearly impossible for YouTube because they're serving most their ad content from the same place as the actual video to get around DNS based ad blockers. My PiHole kills everything except YouTube ads, because if it kills those I can't watch YouTube.

@Gina everything would be camo-patterned, faux carbon fibre, or brushed stainless steel. Branded with a masculine-tinged name for good measure. You wouldn't be caught dead drinking out of an insulated "coffee cup", but a stainless steel Military Grade Survival Mug?Personal grooming? Ew, how effeminate. Manscaping sounds like landscaping, a manly task requiring shovels and stuff.

I had a scare last week with my phone where it started pulling 45% battery overnight two nights in a row, and started thinking about replacing it.Turns out the problem got fixed by restarting it, but it got me thinking that maybe I should get a new one while the old one still works so I can have a backup on hand, so I did. Couldn't be happier so far. 18 hours on battery, installing multiple system updates and using it like normal and it only pulled 38% battery in that time. π

@hund the one I replaced was a Samsung Galaxy S7, I can't actually remember how hold it is but I was thinking it over and it's between 3 and 5 years old and it still works fine. Bit short on storage since the SD card slot malfunctions (known issue), battery isn't perfect either but for a phone that old it's pretty great. The new one is the Motorola Moto G Plus 5G (terrible name, had to show them on my phone to know which one it was). 128G internal storage with an SD slot, so that's nice.

@codesections Void feels like home to me too. I distro hopped a lot until I landed on Void, and while I sometimes feel like trying something new out everything just feels right with Void.No surprises, everything works, no bloat. Things rarely break and if they do it's quickly resolved, and the work-around is easily implemented by me as a user in the interim.Maybe not the best pick for a production server, but I'm not running one of those.

@kev I'm picturing the sequel to this: You needing to go to the shops tomorrow and can't open the doors because the water has seeped around the doors and frozen them shut. πPro tip for that occasion: use a thick plastic bag (or double/triple bag thinner ones as necessary) and fill with hot water from the kettle, and rub over the rim of the door to thaw it. Works on frozen locks too.

@hund from what I've seen, RMS is kind of like one of those people who refuse to call themselves feminists and prefer "equalists" or whatever. They're invariably people who are higher up in the power structure than those who are asking for equality, which is a bad look. "I'm not going to respect your pronouns because I think we need to find better genderless pronouns" is kind of a dick move.Transphobic? Maybe not, but let's not minimize his behaviour.

@kev I switched back to Win10 a few weeks ago myself, for the same reasons. I'm primarily a gamer, and while Steam enabled a whole lot of gaming with Proton it wasn't 100% and I was locked out of a large portion of my library. So now I'm running Win10 on my PC and I can play tons of games I just didn't have access to on Linux, installing the printer was as easy as clicking a button, adding a third monitor worked out of the box and I can just do the thing I want to do.

@kev I didn't have issues as such installing Linux, it was more things like the ones you brought up that crop up after. Just tons of friction. Also installing on a laptop has never been fun times with Linux. Yeah it runs off the liveCD but your wifi doesn't work after installing because it didn't load the right kernel module and you can't just pop the install media in again and get it from there because why would the most obvious solution just work?

#screenshotsunday everyone! I'm on #AnarchyLinux now instead of #Manjaro, but I'm still rocking my #awesomewm setup. I'm also back to using #gruvbox even for my WM since it's the one true colourscheme :)Full size: https://i.vgy.me/lHfWJe.png

@iah I do share my dotfiles, yeah :) https://git.sr.ht/~kungtotte/dotfilesI should probably write down a list of software you'd need to run this out of the box. The big ones would be xst, rofi, awesome (duh), feh, and fish. That makes for a usable system with my dotfiles, then some other tools are needed for full functionality like screenshots and transparency/compositing.
