@aral English commoners were kicked off their land hundreds of years ago. Perhaps you could say we're already colonised and don't see it. Though I'm reluctant to call it by the same word as that used for British imperialism and it's associated atrocities.

Apparently in 2024 a new paper was published into why insects get stuck flying around artificial lights.It's really interesting. I know nothing about insects but it seems a plausible theory: the idea is that insects use light to determine Up and Down for attitude control, so they orient the top of their bodies to the light (the sky is lighter than the ground even at night)!Super interesting read, check it out!https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-024-44785-3#Insects #Entomology #Moths

@Satori It's the first time I've heard of such a plausible explanation, there have been plenty of attempts!It makes me wonder how it feels to a moth. If they use light rather than gravity to orient themselves, flying over a bulb might feel a bit like falling into some kind of gravity well!It's cool to think about 😅

@futurebird I lived in a flat with very small kitchen that squeezed in: two burner stove, half dishwasher, small sink, and combination microwave-grill-oven (the size of a normal small microwave) built in under the countertop. It was very well designed and basically perfect. It didn't feel like anything was missing.

@m @aral @fkamiah17 I used to think people complaining about centrism were unreasonable, but its so obvious now how people claiming to be in the political centre are totally willing to set up all the infrastructure needed by fascism, rather than actually do anything about the rise of fascism.
