"Electron alternatives?" by Dimitri WitkowskiThe author of KeeWeb offers a fresh and nuanced perspective. Personally, I find download/update size reason enough to switch to Ultralight-UX, #NeutralinoJS, or Tauri, etc. But, popular opinion against Electron is driven by RAM use and slowness, which evidently aren't caused by #Electron but by poor engineering atop of it...KeeWeb is fast and uses 150-200M, with or without Electron.https://github.com/keeweb/keeweb/wiki/Electron-alternatives#keeweb #keepass #keepassxc #webperf

🌍 Latency heatmap map by organization or network providerThe data from the RIPE Atlas probes can be used to find the minimum latency from anywhere to a given cloud provider, CDN, or other organization with its own AS network across (usually multiple) physical locations.https://labs.ripe.net/author/emileaben/latency-into-your-network-as-seen-from-ripe-atlas/Example for Wikimedia Foundation:https://observablehq.com/embed/@ripencc/atlas-latency-worldmap?cells=embeddableCell&af=4&origin=14907&date=2021-10-12https://www.peeringdb.com/asn/14907https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Clusters#webperf #peering #ixp #internetaccess #isp #cdn

An artist:1. bought an Andy Warhol drawing for $20,000.2. made 999 high-quality forgeries.3. shuffled them.4. sold each of the 1000 drawings for $250.You might get the original $20,000 Warhol, but you’ll never know. This hurts my brain and I'm loving it!It's a reasonable price for common art. No lottery. Nobody is ripped off. The artist profits hugely, yet gives away a unique item far below market value, but its receiver won't know.It challenges our value system in very Warhol-way.

How effective is paid advertising anyway?Scott Cunningham, on the selection bias in paid clicks:"""[..] there was a nearly one-to-one increase in natural clicks [..] as though users were already going [..]"""https://causalinf.substack.com/p/how-can-we-know-if-paid-search-advertisingReminds me of 2020, when in the Netherlands the NPO (national broadcasting service, akin to BBC), removed third-party tracking and actually increased their revenue in doing so: https://techcrunch.com/2020/07/24/data-from-dutch-public-broadcaster-shows-the-value-of-ditching-creepy-ads/#google #facebook #ebay #AdTech

@bitwarden So long it has an RSS feed, anything would roll well for me. I agree with some other suggestions that self-hosting seems worth considering. Eg directly on your blog, with a relevant tag or category for ease of listing and discovery, the video player can point to locally served files perhaps. And to the extent engagement is desired, the blog presumably has that already.
