@allison Take the dumbphone pill. I switched to this a couple weeks ago and it’s the best phone I’ve ever owned.

@orekix @allison Smartphone cost is subsidized by datamining. They're not cheap because they cost less to make.Plus service is like $5 a month.

@allison I haven't noticed any reception issues, but I obviously don't use my phone that much or have strong opinions on carriers.

@orekix @allison I know what I sound like but I swear it isn't some stupid cali girl digital detox thing. It really is just a nice, quality phone. It does maps (with GPS only too, no net connection!).Honestly I bought it because I broke a phone and was looking for a replacement that wouldn't spy on me and wasn't fragile. I could go through the whole flashing lineage thing or I could just buy a dumbphone that can't sell my data if it doesn't have any. That one seemed more appealing after I bricked a phone installing lineage.

@allison @orekix Unihertz titan. My pro-tips for don't bricking your phone are: use something you can flash the official lineage recovery on, even if you use a different custom recovery. If it's got a lineage recovery build then guaranteed someone else has actually flashed your device with lineage so if you do what they did it'll work.I bricked my phone because I was like "pfft I'll just get my hands dirty and manually flash system images with fastboot alone."

@MischievousTomato @allison @orekix Yeah qualcomm's tooling is impressive, it can make up for shitty recovery support. The titan has a mediatek SoC unfortunately.

@allison @orekix I've never seen a custom ROM that didn't support Pixels, they're every phone hacker's first port I think.

@georgia @nik Out of everyone I know irl and online, you're by far the most likely to be able to fix a phone.

@georgia @nik It didn't work on windows either. They published a bad system image but they won't admit that in support emails so I gotta RMA it. They'll flash it for $10 and then I'm just gonna sell it.

@georgia @nik I know, right? I'd pull the trigger right now if they had an LTE daughterboard for sale.

@georgia @nik They put it on the kickstarter page, I don't know if they ever made that stretch goal or not.

@shmibs Do you work from home, or are you just unavailable for large periods of time? It's appealing but I don't want to sign into personal accounts on my work machine so I'd be unavailable for like 18+ hours a day.@nik @georgia
