@foone Yea I'm pretty suspicious about the "inability" to apply straightforward filters on some of the "top" job search sites. Also comes up a lot with remote work.

@futurebird when LLM producers talk about guard rails, what that means in practice is additional instructions to the LLM that are wrapped around the prompt as supplied by the user.Like many LLM users, they think they just need to convince or berate the LLM into giving the responses they want.Sometimes they will talk about defense in depth and then an example is feeding the prompt to another LLM first to check it for risky elements.This isn't engineering this is derangement.

@futurebird @mfennvt so basically code for "oldies", but I think that's an established genre so they have to keep coming up for new names for "music from 20+ years ago" and maybe they aren't sticking, so the youth is coming up with their own names.

@futurebird I do think the inextorability would be an interesting angle.Trapped in a valley over winter, frantically building defences against unexpected complication, but always coming back to the wall of ice creeping ever closer.

@futurebird it's tricky. Very little of what was taught to me as part of my CS degree (admittedly decades ago) would belong in such a curriculum, and very little of what would need to be taught was presented at all.The "how it works" was both too specific and too cursory and the hollistic view of networks and market forces was almost entirely missing.I got more meaningful information about how computing works from logic, sociology, and history classes than I did from computing classes.

@futurebird or you do hear your own accent and you start doing diction exercises in your car at 16 to undo it because you hate the way it sounds...Then move to the other side of the country for a decade, twice.Yea I get, "wait where are you from?" a lot. I'm not saying I don't have an accent but it's incredibly idiosyncratic now.

@futurebird mine was kinda in between, I didn't know anyone at the company directly but I was sought out by recruiters due to social effects of my job search. I applied and interviewed at several companies with some kind of clout and that got attention at the place I ended up.
