@mansr @ilmari @danieldurrans @revk They are for sure going to try to continue it: the supply chain is being restructured to the extent that even chip makers don’t sell their chips but rather get paid a share of subscription revenue.

David Mitchell does some basic arithmetic to show that the UK regime’s claims are as risible as.. well, everything else it claims. But I feel very few people are asking the really important question: why on Earth did architects design buildings that would have to be pulled down after just 30 years? A typical home mortgage runs for 30 years: if houses were built like this you’d have to start again as soon as you’d finished! https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/sep/10/what-a-school-revamp-once-every-440-years-isnt-enough

“Car hacking may call to mind action-movie-like scenes of millions of Teslas being remotely seized by terrorist groups and commanded to drive into hospitals. That’s thankfully far-fetched.” https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2023/09/electric-car-hacking-digital-features-cyberattacks/675284/ < Trust me, it’s not far-fetched

OK, so an attack is not likely to be steering cars across a city, but an attack that at the same time bricks tens of thousands of cars and trucks and blocks all the highways is not far-fetched.

@vees You just have to block all the roads to cause people to die.

@fediversereport @glynmoody The British regime will never have its own instance because “Mastodon is woke”.

Only two EV hate propaganda pieces from the Sun today (although there’s still time for more).

And a late entry almost at midnight brings yesterday’s EV hate propaganda count up to 4. It seems to usually be four, so maybe that’s the terms of the deal? They seem to get these by scouring social media, and I wonder if it’s all automated and the script stops when it hits four? At what point will their AI bot be writing stories based on social media EV hate stories produced by AI bots?

Next time you hear some brain wormed Brexiter sneer at the idea of being “rule takers”, remind them of the stark reality: we have a choice between taking their rules or having no stuff. The UK is now just a small export market for EU manufacturers, and they simply won’t bother jumping through hoops to comply with whatever rules the British set. https://mastodon.scot/@withaveeay/111125498582052738

Britain is ruled by the most stupid regime in its history but even they recognise that having food riots would be bad, so they’ve abandoned trying to make EU exporters comply with British food regulations. In other areas, like pharmaceuticals, the ruling Stupid Party doesn’t give a damn about shortages.

@EU_Commission @glynmoody That “third of food” is a zombie statistic: no matter how many times it’s fact checked and shown to be misleading at best, back it comes.

@ottocrat @glynmoody I’m shocked that a man who grew up steeped in Apartheid should express blood and soil views.

“The company says a remote software update caused it – a recent update to the vehicle’s operating system inadvertently removed the controls that keep the seats from overheating. If your Lucid runs an operating system version from 2.1.0 to 2.1.20, your car may have the issue.” https://www.kbb.com/car-news/recall-alert-lucid-air-burning-backseat-buns/

The jokey tone of the article is highly inappropriate: this is serious stuff that no only can cause injuries, it can cause vehicle fires (and vehicle fires can cause a building to burn down). It’s also revelatory: what kind of safety engineering processes does the company have? And what else lurks in their software? Do customers have to experience things before the company discovers issues? This is the problem of Branch Elonians normalising the term “beta” safety critical software.

@penguin42 @revk You’d think a company as good at logistics as Amazon would optimize that. Or maybe they did and it saves on something else we can’t see.

@nuthatch @danluu They’re not all terrible at software. A car is not a phone on wheels. A car is not a Windows PC on wheels. A car is not a web server on wheels. The problem domain is a lot more difficult than anything you’ve encountered in mainstream computing. For a start, if it goes wrong then people can be injured or die.

@OliverNoble @nuthatch @danluu That’s how it’s supposed to work. Safety comes first, then comes reliability.
