@volpeon I'd not thought before how similar a fax and a dot matrix might sound (to someone much younger than myself). But, yeah, nah... I am of the age where I would not mistake one for the other.I could probably even tell the difference between a daisy-wheel printer and the other types of computer printers from that same era.

@moh_kohn @briankrebs I concur. I haven't finished it yet (thanks for the spoiler that won't matter at all), but I've watched MOST of it. It's quite well done, I think. The kid's a fine actor. Very believable.

Idea: FediHam Battleship Contest.#HamRadio games of #Battleship. Points for each ship you sink. Each band/mode used to complete a salvo is a multiplier.#APRS doesn’t count if you used your phone/tablet, but does if you used 2m, so between 2 players, could be only 1 gets the multiplier. (Same for #winliklnk.)#20m #Olivia? Another mult.40m Olivia? Another mult.40m #PSK32? Another mult. You could have all your ships sunk but still win from multipliers.1/2

Ship points inverted for difficulty, e.g Carrier takes 5 hits, but is easiest to find, so only 1 point. PT boat takes only 2 hits, but is hardest to find, so 4 points.3-hit ship, 3 points.4-hit ship (the battleship), 2 points. But you still get mults for completed salvos over ham radio that drop harmlessly in the drink.100 point bonus for #RadioGramDiscuss…

Need to have some way to quickly/easily share the opponent-view of my current board, because whomever I'm playing against may go radio silent, & I may need to pick up with someone else.Maybe it's a pinned toot on my Fedi profile. Maybe there's a separate server that handles all the boards. Logged in as me, I see my board AND where I put all my ships. But others can only see the hits/misses. Somebody somewhere must have built this.

Clarification of APRS/WinLink and phone/tablet. You get the multiplier if YOUR interaction with APRS or WinLink uses RF. But no mult if your side of the message was 100% internet. I hope that makes sense.Similar for things like WiresX, Allstar, echolink, where it's possible to participate with or without Amateur Radio RF on each half of the QSO.

@PopeASDF @k8vsy Oh, wouldn't it be fun if there was a collection of several games designed to be played over the air there? It could range from simple instructions for doing something on paper, to the crazily elaborate Battleship thing I've been blathering about, etc.Oooo! On-air Scavenger Hunts!

Been up more than 2h by now, but finally took my first peek at pskreporter.info.Oh NO. No decodes in the past hour? NOTHING?Maybe it's down. That's happened before.Check WSJT-X Improved... OOPS, I apparently clicked on something yesterday which toggled the "Band Hopping" button to off. So all night, instead of checking all the usual bands, it was stuck on 10m.Yeah, no decodes on 10m at 7:20am here is normal.#HamRadio #HFPropagation

@jima If ipv6 requires decent-career-level of expertise, it's not for me.So far, nothing has come up that has made me need nor want to touch ipv6, and I'm hopeful it will remain that way until I die. That is, if I HAVE to use ipv6, I hope it's someone else's problem, and free/transparent to me.

@sullybiker @kibcol1049 Given his reaction to the money changers in the temple, had the WSJ existed at that time, a good flogging would not be out of character.

#HamRadio idea...As you might be aware, some hams use "88" in place of "73".I'm going to start adding "16" after "73" in QSOs, in modes where that works.1 = A6 = F16 = Anti FascistAlso, elon can eat $#!+ & die.

@oh8hub @hobbsc @vees @zondance Yup, I'd heard back in the '90s that 88 was either "love and kisses" or "hugs and kisses".But lately, the scuttlebutt is that RWNJs are using it for "HH"... which is sickening.

@clacke @oh8hub @vees @zondance @hobbsc Oh, shit, I bet you were! That's hilarious. So, can you tell me if the Chinese/Cantonese "bai bai" is borrowed from English? Or is the English derived from Chinese/Cantonese? I could see it going either way.

@Haikyoneko Yet another reason it was a bad idea to stop teaching cursive in school.I do get the joke, of course. But I'm old enough that I was taught cursive in the early 1970s. It doesn't look like a 'C' to me at all. It's totally an 'A'.The peak between the 1st & 2nd letters is higher than the 'u'. If the 1st letter was 'C' then the peak would be way lower than the 'u'. Tiny bump. Minuscule.

@futurebird True story: met a dude @ a party @ a neighbor/friend’s house. He seemed like the one guy least fitting-in with the collection of guests. Dressed a little less casual than everyone else, etc. Since I am usually the least comfortable one @ a party, I went & engaged w/ him. Asked what he does.“I’m in sales; I sell surfactants.”“What are surfactants?”“They’re chemicals that have a surfactant effect.”“So you don’t know what that word means, either. Have a good eve.”

@tomjennings @glitzersachen @fschaap I see your point. But a little “selling” them away from an OS that we know will give them problems which they don’t know about, to steer them away from trouble, isn’t mean at all.
