@futurebird @dahukanna @PavelASamsonov hmmm… 🤔 most applications of LLMs don’t simply use the model alone. it’s typically a mixture of the trained model + banks of knowledge + input from the user. i’ve definitely built LLM apps that interview SMEs and then turn around and use that as a bank of knowledge in another app

@futurebird i think you have a lot of clarity of mind that is probably lacking from the majority of america. hell, i have a hard time even visualizing presidents as just a cog in the system. i’m worried about this debate, because i don’t think people dismiss superficial performance that easily @nazokiyoubinbou

@futurebird a software engineering mentor once told me that, instead of failover to other components, spend time fixing the problems with the primary component so you don’t need to failover at all.i keep thinking about this with biden. sure, harris can step in, so why not just make her the president to begin with?what about partial failure? what if biden’s performance degrades but not enough for VP failover? seems like it turns over to unelected admin staff, which is probably worse

do you ever think about how some organisms, like lobsters, don’t age and are effectively immortal, but most do age? like, we evolved to die. it was evolutionarily advantageous to die, otherwise most organisms would be immortal

i guess it’s similar to why short-lived feature branches work well than immortal forks of source code in software. or why smaller batches work better in stochastic gradient descent immortality can be stable and robust, but anti-fragility needs those opportunities for pivots provided by short life spans

@futurebird a child is a good example. i think of mobs like a cancer. you’ve got lots of healthy and productive cells that are operating normally until the “infection” takes over and replicate recklessly wo regard to long term survival. no goal matters beyond amplification, and at some point it becomes uncontrollable
