No one fell off the ladder. But you know, don't do this stuff. You don't want a brain injury if you can avoid it.

Three good things for yesterday 1. Mini road trip/day trip. I love being on the road with my partner 2. Visited the Great Stupa and had a yum vegan lunch3. Saw the Frida Kahlo exhibition in Bendigo. What a seriously big get for little Bendigo! It's mostly clothes, video, photos and ephemera, but there are two original paintings and several drawings. There were 2000+ people just yesterday though, so mask up if you go. #3GoodThings #Art

This is the big Singapore #vegan food excitement thread!I've self organised a bit of a food tour, places to eat, dishes to try, second hand bookshops to look for recipe books, and a visit to the national library to check out older local cook books, with a couple of actual tours thrown in - one is a kitchen garden tour about edible plants here, the other (if it runs, it was cancelled today, hut I rebooked) is a veg tour of the markets in Geylang. Plus I just have a lot of favourite food here.

Today, so far, has just been breakfast. Curry puffs and pisang goreng (fried banana), plus fried jackfruit and sweet potato today, with iced coffee and soya bean drink. (There's no veg stall here, but several fried anack places). For the first time that I've noticed, the soy milk is labeled soy milk, and not soya bean drink. When did that change? Also, so much plastic today! The coffee and drinks place with the reusable cups didn't have any soy today.

No other photos for yesterday, because I didn't think to take any, but there was economical rice and bee hoon for lunch with bitter gourd, eggplant, tofu curry, and mock char siu. And veg sha cha for dinner.Today's breakfast (part 1) is almond tofu. So yum, the flavor is marzipan-like.Part 2 will be more fried snacks and coffee (I'm still not in walking distance of a veg stall). But I'm waiting out the rain.#vegan

More food today!Nasi lemak for brunch (not pictured). The vegan version has mock meat, and no egg.And for dinner, our forts try of mala hotpot, which seems to have popped up as a trend since last time I was here, and claypot vinegar mock meat. We both loved the hotpot, but the vinegar dish is definitely not for either of us. #vegan #travel #food

I haven't been posting, but I have been eating. Mostly vegan chicken rice, and bee hoon, and an ungodly amount of snacks. No picture because I've had a phone situation, but I think I'll get some off partner later.

I have had a lot of fun trying more sweets and snacks than usual (usually I'm in a hurry and don't have internet and default to places that are recognisably vegetarian - and snack stalls rarely have that marled in a way I can see, as an English-only speaker). Some faves coming up.

Ang ku kueh. These are steamed rice dumplings with sweet fillings (the ones I tried, I believe there are savoury ones too). The red ones in the photos are peanut (my favourite), the rainbow is sweet bean, and there were also green ones in which were coconut. All from Ji Xiang Confectionary. #singpore #vegan #sweets

Moon cakes! It's mid autumn/hungry ghost festival, and there are lotus paste Moon cakes everywhere. They usually have an egg yolk in the middle, but there are vegan ones at the Kwan Im Vegetarian under the South East Asia Hotel. The aunty there, friend of the owner, and talked me into buying yam cakes as well this time. (Photo from some time ago, because I forgot this time) #vegan

Last night's dinner might've been the single best meal I've had in a long time. There's a fully vegan Sri Lankan restaurant in Little India, called Kunthaville. It's pricey in comparison to coffee shops and stalls, but not more than a moderately nice meal in Melbourne. This food was absolutely divine though. We got an appam with onion chambal, khotu vegan mutton, brinjal (eggplant) sweet and sour, and biryani rice, and a falooda for dessert (all of which is why breakfast was a little smaller today, lol).It was all fantastic, but the khotu was the major standout. I could eat that every day! And I'm glad to have tried it, because when I was in Sri Lanka (briefly) it was everywhere but difficult to find one that was vegan.#vegan #singapore

I should note: any time I say "I couldn't find a vegan <thing>", especially in Asia, it's usually because I lack the language skills or haven't done enough research. There aren't many places without vegan options baked in or at least modern veg places if you're willing to research and drag your travelling partners to a veg-specific place (with a few exceptions, like rural or small town areas). It is hard to find vegan dishes on standard menus in some places, but I've had more trouble in Europe than in Asia.My partner isn't willing to try options at non-veg places except Ethiopian, or if we're in a real pinch. Too many dairy poisonings and accidental meat instances. I still give it a whirl sometimes though.

I spent the morning at the Tekka Centre in Little India, and had breakfast (pictured above) of vadai and coffee, and then a snack of peanut Granny pancake (min jiang kueh), after a wander through the wet market.I bought a bunch of fruit (rambutan, longan, watermelon), and wished for a kitchen (and a happier wrist) so I could justify buying all the vegetables and spices and tofu. The aunty at the stall picked my rambutan for me, because I was apparently not being choosy enough :) She did a great job, it was excellent and we finished it all off after lunch. #singapore #vegan #travel

@futurebird some of it used to be made with asbestos, maybe that helped the fashion change? (It isn't now though)

@futurebird my Dad laid floors for a living. Apparently it was nothing but lino for 25 years, and then they've been pulling it up for the last 20.

@futurebird @benh oh yeah, the induction hobs are excellent now. Mine is wired in and huge (I'm the cook they design kitchens for), and boils water at the same rate as the electric kettle.I have seen two and three burner wired in induction options here in Australia, and in houses in Europe. Just make sure you pick one that doesn't entirely turn off if you lift the pan to shake it (the IKEA bench top one is bad for that).

I don't think I'll ever understand the sort of person who holds people in contempt for not knowing something, or not sharing their interest in something. Contempt and disdain should be reserved for people who harm others. Not for people who find Linux difficult or don't enjoy cycling or didn't know about a political ideology.

Real question for anyone who knows (like a researcher): are people actually worse at handling their feelings and impulses now, or does it just seem that way?#research #socialScience #psychology #AskFedi

@kaia yeah, data supports everything, huh? Ah well. If only there were answers available! (Nothing would change, but I'd know, and not just wonder :))
