well...I've talked a lot about my dissatisfactions with the culture here. feeling like it's still based on old bad assumptions...people wanting a quiet place away from trouble, away from The Bad Peopleand paradoxically, or hypocritically if you like, I've hoped that I could find some kind of niche for myself here. no place has ever seemed much like home, not for years nowguess the tensions have reached some kind of breaking pointI think this place is gonna rip itself to pieces soon, and I don't think there's any polite way to say it, and honestly...? I'm not sure I want to try to stop it from happening.so maybe I should start thinking about where else I should be

and I find myself thinking also...I know a ton of cool people, _in person_, here in Seattle. there's many more people in my life now than there was a couple years agoand you know something?hardly any of those cool people are HEREand maybe I should heed thatI have a few friends here but they're all far away. there's always Twitter. it's run by fascists, but then...so is the whole damn country, and I can't leave _that_this fediverse...it was never a safe harbor from all thatand now Gab is going to tear this place to pieces......or, the fediverse will survive the disruption and be strongerbut in the meantime it won't be safe, or any place I want to be aroundTwitter is simpler. @mdhughes well, we we see, won't we, if the network can deal with Gab properly. it'll be a sort of test, I supposeI talked the matter over with my metamour (who, I should say, is NOT on "the fediverse" and considers the whole system to be unsound) and he's predicting that bad actors are gonna be posting massive dumps of private messages onto KF and so forth. I'm not sure folks are ready for how...well, how well-established and _determined_ a crowd of troublemakers is coming here. this isn't just some random crew of alt-righters

@Canageek I think that interpretation is, at the very least, fairly disputable. the evidence is too scant, and our few sources impose their own slant. looking into the scholarship on Baldr and Hoðr I find mostly arguments, not settled interpretationsI'm only pointing out that the story makes sense *psychologically* as long as you assume that jealousy and hatred was Baldr's lot. you don't pitch rocks at the head of someone you like.
