Every single day of working from home makes me more aware of how much I miss the „accidental conversations“ we tend to have in the office

What I find most interesting about Basecamps new email service is that they, like many other newish email providers and increasingly also older ones, prioritize the ability to offer certain features over following standard email protocolsIt somehow feels as if the era of imap/smtp and using standards compliant apps from other developers comes to an endNot sure how I feel about this

@tek That’s definitely one of the reasons why I haven’t switched to one of the newer, more closed email services either so far.

Tbh I’m shocked that one of the biggest, most developed and richest countries has such problems with reducing the number of new Corona caseshttps://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2020/06/19/countries-keeping-coronavirus-bay-experts-watch-us-case-numbers-with-alarm/

It would be very interesting to watch meetings at Microsoft where such ideas are born and people agree that their reasonable:Let’s force install Skype on every Win 10 device and add a menu item „Share with Skype“ into Explorer, which sits there even if the user doesn’t use Skype and can only be disabled by editing the registry

Just stumbled across this presentation of a German company which has developed artificial swallows that can fly loops and tight turns autonomouslyThe most fascinating for me, however, is that, if you look at them from a certain distance, they almost look like birds, because these machines mimic the sequence of movements birds do very accuratelyVideo here:https://www.festo.com/group/en/cms/13787.htm

@jwildeboer I didn’t know this, but now that you’re saying it I vaguely remember that they were in the news before because of a flying object. Will be interesting to what they‘ll come up with next.

This is the oldest planned garage in the world. It was built in 1893 for Carl Benz.

@kensanata That would have been my first suspicion as well, I’m just wondering whether this sufficiently explains the massive growth of new cases over the last days.

I can understand that it is terribly devastating to see one's Olympic dream being shattered, but a coach punching animals and telling her athlete to just hit harder is still unacceptablehttps://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/germanys-modern-pentathlon-coach-disqualified-after-punching-horse-2021-08-07/

It’s my 6th #Fediversary / #Mastoversary todayWhen I remember it correctly there only were 2 or 3 servers to choose from (if at all), the web app was much more rudimentary and there were no mobile apps at all. Despite all of this it already felt good to be there.
