@vaartis it's a pretty high bar; but literary lyrics like these may be out there somewhere ...gabriel a gifted wordsmith, and entire band (at this point) striving to make something to advance culture (instead of just generating revenue)not one for looking back, but "supper's ready" a high point (also musically)

@wolf480plHOME different than PATH(so HOME_* also different)app specific environment avoids clutter (and errors) within system environment ...for instance, some hosts may have multiple versions of java installed, so using system level variables would result in (even more) "undefined behavior"there may also be bugs within applicationi agree it can be very frustrating trying to figure out what's wrong from a (misleading) error message ...good luck!

@wolf480plenv vars are part of environment (global)local vars are notso now you have multiple local PATH vars (how do you know which is which) ... ?seems to me you have jumped from the frying pan into the fire (i may be misunderstanding) ...i agree that software configuration is often more complex than it could be🍀
