@signalapp Someone else wrote this, but I'd like to also state that this is, by far, my most used feature of Signal. Thanks!

@lauren Twitter itself has gone through a transitory life evolution; it wasn't always so easy to figure out. Remember the "Idiot's Guide to Twitter" book?...

@staidwinnow @samlitzinger @Logophilius Count me as one person who's losing respect for media, the companies and their journalists, by the day. My counter started once they tolerated some of their fellow journalists getting booted from Twitter; every single one of them (both entities) should've bailed at that time.Y'all are like a bunch of savanna animals who go to the water pond where you know there are deadly crocodiles. You feel like you have to go there for life itself, but you don't.

@lore I think that I read Macs expect a different partition format for their ESP partition, HFS+. (See top inset on https://www.rodsbooks.com/efi-bootloaders/principles.html)That's not what you're running into is it?

@oatmeal I presume you meant 6.3.11 to 6.3.12?Anyway, there were many of us with AMD cpu/igpu systems that 6.3.11 booted to a hanging system. I think 6.3.12 was a "quick remediation" of that while keeping the security fix for a recent critical CVE. I think that you should consider submitting a bug report on this.In the meantime, can you still boot from 6,3.8?Good luck!

@oatmeal Also, do you mean sleep and not hibernation? If it's sleep, then yeah, this is one of the most fragile aspects I've found about running #fedora. It comes and it goes kernel update to kernel update for me. This is an artifact of #fedora's approach to pushing kernel updates fairly often..Lately, though, it has mostly worked just fine. It is definitely not robust. You don't happen to have any sort of BIOS setting that reflects sleep state options, do you?

@oatmeal It is pretty unlikely it's hibernating, which means it writes a copy of your computer states to disk and shuts down. You are probably talking about "suspend", which is also called sleep. which doesn't shutdown your computer. You'll likely see a blinking light on your power button, and this will be shown in your system journal if you do a suspend and wake up cycle on a kernel that works for you.For the latter, after waking:sudo journalctl -b 0

@oatmeal Maybe. Try booting into the BIOS and look around for something to do with sleep or suspend. Thinkpads have an option to suspend to S3 vs S0, I believe, which is denoted in the BIOS as a Suspend menu option list of "Windows" or "LInux". If you can pick Linux, look in your journal after booting for a line like this one:kernel: ACPI: PM: (supports S0 S4 S5)If your system supports power state S3, I believe, it'll likely be more robust about suspend-wake'ing.Good luck!

@oatmeal Oh, and even if you can't change this setting in your BIOS, it's not the end of the world. You just have to boot a previous kernel version that works, and wait for another update to roll down. You can use grubby to select a given kernel by default other than the most current.I set my system to keep a total of 4 kernel boot option instead of 3 just to account for any time delays. This is a cost of doing business with a distribution that is pretty cutting edge. It's a small one, imo.

A quick little report on the Covid-19 front: Two and a half weeks ago I was on a flight from DFW to Paris (CDG). There was one person, who never wore a mask, who was quite obviously sick coughing in our direction for 8+ hours. We were both masked up.My wife and I, quite coincidentally, I'm sure, both got Covid. It was a first for both of us.We've both been vaccinated and boosted with every available vaccine. Including with the very latest update five days prior to the flight.

(cont'd)It was still a pretty bad experience for both of us. We're only now beginning to feel ourselves.TL;DR: Don't believe the hype about "milder" covid-19. It's BS. It's still possible to get very sick from it. Even if you're fully vaxxed up. Be careful out there!

@davidrevoy I remember an awful lot of posts happening around the time the decision was made to default to the Wayland protocol for the f40 KDE spin. I sure came away from those discussions understanding that, while Wayland would be the default, it would remain possible to install X11 and continue along as before with it, too. I was pretty sure that they hadn't banned it, just discontinued making it the default. Are you saying that that's not true?

@davidrevoy I'm sorry to have taken so long to get back to you on this!I know that X11 will no longer be supported, bur what I meant to say was that you *can* still install it (`plasma-workspace-x11`) and use it. It's only maintained by the package maintainer, though.https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/fedora-40-kde-spin-x11-doesnt-exist/113892/5?replies_to_post_number=5 use X11Regardless, you're probably set yourself up by moving on, so this is all most likely moot.

@aral A fair bit of your declaration seems like a straw man to me. I've always interpreted free to mean free of payment cost. Free of cost has never meant freedom in the free from tyranny sense.Open source? Well, open to acquire and scrutinize, etc. Also, are you saying there are no protections available for open source, that something like one of the GPLs doesn't protect the open source itself?
