Me: *typing away on my Razr Black Widow*Wife coming up the stairs: I hear you typing away there, Mr. Jon. Me: I hope so. I paid a hella for this keyboard to make damn sure everyone on the block can hear me typing. Wife passing by the office: Fair.

@salvadorlimones I love mine. I don’t even game. I’m just really hard on keyboards and got tired of going through the $20 ones.

@noorul Pretty much all the “gaming” keyboards are mechanical. All keyboards were mechanical originally. Loud clickey clickey ones. But over time they’ve been replaced by solenoid ones that are slim and quiet but also break easily under heavy use. Mechanical ones are back on the market because they are much tougher. They’re generally much more expensive but worth it (in my opinion).

@noorul I’m not sure I know what you mean. I assume “remote work” means “working from home” but I guess someone could work remotely from an office. But that’s not the type of remote work I mean.

@djmoch @padraic_padraic @ashfurrow Generally, the less users you have, the less federating that happens. Your instance only federates with instances it knows about and it learns about them by the people you follow and who they follow. So, while you can definitely end up federating with a lot of instances from a single-user instance, it still won’t likely be as many as a system with many users. And as an admin you can control federation if it gets out of hand.

@izaya Writing my first CGI script was magical. Totally changed the web for me. I was so clueless I wrote it in C++.

@izaya We use LUA a lot at work but not me, specifically. But I see how flexible and powerful it is. I’m looking for excises to learn it.

This #Linux systemd drama is a great example of how a small vocal minority can cause a lot of noise about something that almost nobody cares about or will be affected by. I recall the same call to arms when Ubuntu “broke” userland by shipping without direct access to the root account.

@wowaname I think you’re reading too much into what I posted. I wasn’t disparaging vocal majorities. I was just pointing out that they are exactly that - minorities. The systemd thing is a good example. There are runtime AND compile time options to disable the unwanted behaviour. But, instead, this group has decided to mount an attack against a maintainer than to simply rtfm and configure their software correctly. That’s why they’re the minority. It’s unusual behaviour.

Digging write.as. I love the light weight/distraction free markdown editor and it has some very unique features. I especially love that I don’t have to shut off commenting. It’s just not a thing. I hate commenters. Get lost with your comments.

@clacke No, I just mean I can mute you or block you, and also mute threads on fedi.Mostly, I was making a joke about the fact that blog comments are pretty much the lowest form of internet communication in existence. Followed closely by social media comments. But, in general, social media sites, such as those running Mastodon, have fairly good/granular account/commenting controls so it's easier to control.

@ashfurrow @adelheid @fuzzface Sorry about the whitehouse thing. We’d only just sorted out how to ferment maple syrup and for a little out of hand. Sorry.

@switchingsocial It also allows you to write ridiculously long posts so you can irritate the entire fediverse every time you post. #FeatureNotABug

That’s it. I’m installing Pleroma today so I can write crazy long posts, too. I’m tired of being marginalized by completely sane and well thought out rules on toot length.
