RE: https://neuromatch.social/@jonny/115587256564864694Okay… if Mozilla is going “to do for AI what [they] did for the web” now, then who is going to do for the web what Mozilla did for the web?

It pisses me off that I can’t write with my beloved em-dashes anymore, because my writing would end up looking like this Mozilla press release.

So how it seems to work is:Unconstitutional = Trump can do whatever he wants with no repercussions.Constitutional = The same, except he also pays defense contractors millions of dollars to check the [x] "war crime is allowed" box before he does it.Got that right? https://gizmodo.com/palantir-ceo-says-making-war-crimes-constitutional-would-be-good-for-business-2000695162#Palantir #USPol #USGov

It's cool to hear Trump is coming around to the idea of naming things what the rest of the world calls them. Let's fix this one next

RE: https://mastodon.thenewoil.org/@thenewoil/115971195227745876Next up will be a VPN ban. Many tech-y people will see that and think “lol yeah well that’s not going to stop *me* from using a VPN”A VPN ban isn’t really meant stop you from using one. It means when they catch you doing so, they’ll use the fact you’re using this harmless technology itself as a *pretense* to lock you up without needing to do any “hard work” (i.e. an investigator’s job) like actually confirming whether you committed a real crime.Don’t think you won’t be impacted just because you know how to outsmart an ISP filter! This is not a plan to protect children or stop you from consuming adult media. It is a ploy to eventually eliminate ALL freedom of expression and free access to information in the UK.And the same goes for Chat Control and encrypted messengers, btw#UKpol #VPNban #PornHub #ChatControl #Privacy #FreeSpeech #SocialMedia

I think some are still missing the point. I’m not saying they’re going to lock up every single person who uses a VPN or watches porn. Your government’s strategy is to make “crimes” like this as common and easy to commit as possible. This way, if you ever do something completely legal which they *actually* don’t like, *which can be completely unrelated to VPNs or bypassing age verification,* they can pull up your internet history and easily prosecute you.Organize a legitimate protest, and the government’s swift response will be to label you a child sex offender because they found you using evil VPN technology. This is how free speech dies, not from a law that says “free speech is dead now,” but from draconian, authoritarian laws like this that give the government “plausible” reasons to go after anyone, which can’t easily be fought against. This has always been the playbook to target innocents. In the USA, drug possession laws being created as a pretense for cops to raid and dismantle minority communities, for example. And now this is coming to the digital realm.

Apparently, GrapheneOS is "offering forgiveness" to people they are in conflict with.A few weeks ago I let them know I would be willing to accept if they were willing to remove the many lies and personal attacks they've posted about me over the years, and I provided a short list of a few examples to make it easier for them.I have not heard back since, but I'm hopeful they will follow through on their efforts to mend our relationship 🙂

@picofarad I believe they don’t like this video because Rossmann started streaming their DMs. https://youtu.be/4To-F6W1NT0It’s interesting, because in the thread I just linked to they said they were mad at Rossmann for streaming “someone who had just been […] swatted,” so they do recognize that their messages to Rossmann were out of the norm, given the whole situation going on. Yet I’ve never seen anyone at GOS ever go “hey I shouldn’t have messaged you like that, it was a crazy month, let’s figure this out” 🤷♂️ Anyways yeah, there are probably more cases since I didn’t check all their posts, but if they handle this list that I could find with quick 5-minute search, I’ll consider that enough of a good faith effort, and I won’t even care about other posts or getting an apology 🙂

@aral hate to defend macs, but it’s probably a good thing they can’t be disabled via the main operating system or malware would just do that

@aral on *internal* Mac (and iPhone/iPad) displays, the green/orange dot is actually baked into the LCD hardware to always have the pixels lit up when the camera/mic is activated, so they can't really make the indicator too complex. But yeah, I'm still with you 😆

RE: https://mastodon.neat.computer/@privacyguides/116388654332393519I like this tbh. Not at all enough to switch from Zen Browser, but a decent idea nonetheless.
