Do I have #Obsidian fans and experts in my timeline?I want to build a skill tree, as you know it from games, and have each skill as a note. Is there a way to automatically create a halfway decently looking graph of such skill trees? The graph view is too muddled for that purpase.

@lextenebris I probably I misphrased the original question: I want the graph to be generated from the notes, not the notes from the graph :)I have a bunch of notes, and I want the graph to be generated, and altered whenever I change data in the notes.

@futurebird I agree, but I also wonder whether this actually worked?Sadly, I don't recally any time where someone said "here is the BIGNEWCRIMETHING and we need to do things about it", only to be laughed out of the election cycle because the BIGNEWCRIMETHING wasn't a thing after all.Is that because laughing them out doesn't work, or is it because laughing them out sadly simply doesn't happen enough?

@futurebird yeah, I'm seeing the same thing here in Germany: Someone playing up some crime thing or other crisis, and from there, it is only about the best way to deal with that, never any politician actually saying "but IS THERE a crisis? Really? Isn't crime actually... down?"hold on, there are actually some who say that, mostly from the (far) left side of the political spectrum, but they never get that message to stick. :(

@futurebird @gloriouscow I need to look up which book in the series it was, but in the Moirin trilogy by Jacqueline Carey being able to hear and understand the language of ants was considered a curse, because it's boring and it. never. stops. anywhere. :)

@futurebird This is Lemmy. Lemmy only gives pets to tall people that can reach his level.(yes, this is the top of the 3D printer cabinet.)(No, I am not crouching)(yes, the girlfriend can only see the cats squished fur from below the plexiglass cabinet)(yes, Lemmy loves "up", and has discovered the secret stash of kibble on top of the kitchen cabinets where even the tall human needs to stretch a bit)#AdventuresOfCraigAndLemmy

@futurebird Ikea has VÄLBILDAD, which is a two-burner induction stove, pretty smøl at 29x52cm. And yes, they also have dishwashers at 45cm width...

@futurebird @benh I switched to induction about 2 years ago, and am not looking back. The only issue I have is that all of these have some hellish touch-interface instead of proper sturdy knobs, and the sad bew-BEEP the thing makes when something wet hits the touch surfaces is a constant source of frustration and resigned amusement in this household.(we of course anthropomorphized the stove by now and have determined that it is just afraid of getting wet.)

@futurebird Define "customizing" here? I've lived most of my life in rented flats, and even when I moved into the first flat with my then girlfriend at 22, I thought I had plenty of opportunity for making this my own place.. (But then, I'm living in Germany, habits and things are different here)

@futurebird Again, german pecularities here: A lot of rented flats come without any kitchen furniture or appliances, or the ones that are there are often so tiny and basic that one can temporarily store them in the attic and replace with ones own. :)And not having Stud-and-drywall walls in general makes built-in-bookshelves generally a non-issue.And I've laid carpet, wood laminate flooring and PVC wood-imitate flooring (the stuff you get on a roll like carpet) in a lot of rented places too.But ripping out, restaining, or outright replacing hardwood floors where they exist is indeed out, and tiles are also a big no-go. (Although I've painted over bathroom tiles in the past!)

@futurebird @clarablackink btw: I find myself for the first time in my life in an apartment that I actually own, and am still figuring a lot of stuff out. INCLUDING dealing with the HOA equivalent. (In which I somehow ended up being a member of the board, so I can nip the most egregious things in the bud. So people are allowed to put solar panels on their balconies now without any undue hassle)

@futurebird some 3D printers and lasercutters by now actually have a plotting mode, BambuLabs and xtool for example have such devices.Alas, not cheap, because the plotting is the add-on to the more highend products.

I have this nifty "doctors bag" roleplaying bag. It contains basically everything I need except a rulebook to run or participate in a pen and paper game. And it got a bit hard to find stuff in there. Gridfinity to the rescue! #Gridfinity #penandpaper #rpg #edc? 1/2

@futurebird I did subscribe to WIRED back when they were still kinda niche, but that is long gone. These days I just get my weekly dose of pulp in the form of Perry Rhodan novels

@futurebird I am really on the fence on this. On the one hand, I did teach IT stuff a while, and I really think that during that learning experience, no question should be disqualified. And yes, even outside the teaching context, asking "basic" questions should be fine. But, and here's the fence I'm sitting on.....I have had people who refused to learn, but instead tried to use me as their (unpaid) information butler. So instead of using the manual I provided to them, or looking up the question on any search machine, they thought it'd be easier to ask me.I was still happy to help when they said "I tried searching for XYZ, but found nothing helpful". But when their first instinct face with something was to always send me an email or, worse, call me on the phone, then I got a tad bit hostile and sent them lmgify links.

@futurebird that's the story I got taught too. With the slight wrinkle that they weren't going "home" home, but to the place of their birth, and the census didn't really asked if folks are good to travel...
