Crab apple tree is the variety “Candymint." Usually few fruits, it had a great year. This year the jewelweed is so feisty, it grew right up into the tree. An unusual color combination here -- these deep green leaves, the maroon apples, the jewelweed flowers. Love this color palette. This year I was so busy with non-photography I just kept the same two #vintagelenses at hand, mostly: Tokina 90 f2.4 and Olympus 50 OM f2 Macro. Usually I swap out #primelens s like mad.#garden #photography

I live in a place where jewelweed (Impatiens balsamina) thrives, and that's OK with me. I let it have it’s way with the place, mostly, and it's everywhere. It loves moisture, so this year it is insanely successful. Zen Master Suzuki Roshi said, “Be grateful for the weeds you have in your mind, because eventually they will enrich your practice.” Being grateful for weeds is a mixed bag, but there they are.f4 with the Bokina#vintaglens #bloomscrolling #garden #photography

With all the carpentry I did, the #garden really got away from me and had its own chaotic energy with the heat and all the rain. Every year I let a line of Joe Pie Weed get away and go wild. I hate that it blocks a view of the pond by the garden, but I love the pink-purple flowers. This year, thanks to the rain, it's about eight feet tall! Here it is only a purple haze in the distance behind the dark sunflower with dew.#sunflower #BloomScrolling #vintagelens #photography

2.5 month old grand baby spent 3 hours in daycare last week. Came home with Covid, staff is all out, my son and his wife also infected. Everyone miserable and pretty sick. Damn #Covid

With my #DIY carpentry obligations almost winding down, I've got a bit of time. And, a visit from my daughter. So we hiked up a little mountain in NH, Cardigan. They're working on the fire tower up there. #infrared #NH #landscapephotography #blackandwhite

… and finally taking a little bit of time to review files exposed a few weeks ago. On the way to visit my new grandson (who picked up #covid in his 3 hour daycare experience the other week). The Atlantic Ocean is on the way to Southwest Pennsylvania, right?#infrared #blackandwhitephotography #dunes #atlanticocean

The kale is doing quite nicely this year, in spite of me generally neglecting the garden to a degree I rarely have. This is through a modern Voigtlander lens I maybeshould have used more this summer. It is the sharpest lens, corner to corner, really, and also pretty wide open.(this summer I mostly used a pair of vintage lenses, which are also sharp (not like this lens) but maybe prettier than anything. #garden #vermont #autumn #bokeh #photography

Another view of that kale I posted yesterday, this time from above. A bit of fog had lifted, still some density to the air. The maples by the little pond by the garden are nice this year. #garden #vermont #drone #photography #autumn

With all of the well deserved trashing of #Spotify these days, here's something helpful to avoid it even better.A RayCast extension called “I don't have Spotify” It will open a Spotify link in Apple Music or a few other services. I just installed it, haven't had a chance to use it.And if you haven't tried #RayCast yet, it's greathttps://www.raycast.com/sjdonado/idonthavespotify

@futurebird @tersenurse I posted the other day about an encounter with a lumberyard employee who seems to take that view. I think he was confiding (or threatening?) that he was in a militia. My late father went over the deep end into Fox land late in his life. Before that he hadn't been so crazy. Absolutely we can't underestimate the power of propaganda in media and social media right now. Logic has nothing to do with it. It is emotion and distortion.

@futurebird @tersenurse I have a cousin who has gone over this particular deep end. I am not in touch with him, but my sister is in contact with his brother, and she sees his facebook posts. He has destroyed his very comfortable life and gone quite mad. His family are afraid of him as he is manifesting lots of irrational anger, and he has guns.It has nothing to do with any rational reason, except influence by a social media echo chamber, and exploitation and enhancement of latent tendencies

@futurebird I’m quite mixed on the touch controls on my induction range. The main time I hate it is when the semi-horizontal panel gets wet and no longer functions. Unfortunately while cooking it’s easy to get that panel wet. Sometimes you really need to do something fast, like turn down high heat, and it won’t respond when wet. Have to yank the pot/pan off the burner and then deal with the wet panel situation.

@futurebird Maybe the luxury lifestyle needs advertisements the most — to know what to buy, what is desirable, how your wealth is salient in the culture.

@futurebird I haven't lived in a building with a TV in it since about 1978. Currently it's a 2012 tech JVC projector (really good) hooked up to an Apple TV. Once a week movie on the 100 inch screen.

@futurebird Cedar is not effective. Pheromone traps help. There are also tiny parasitic wasps. You can buy the eggs in the summer. Trichogramma. There are several species of those. I haven’t found any research about the best species for this purpose.

@futurebird We’ve been fighting them for years. We got some sheep fleece into the house for spinning, and it was infested. There is also knitting and wool rugs here, wool clothing. We’ve been battling them since that fleece came in. I think science comes down against cedar being effective. But if the moths can’t get into the chest it could be protective! We *might* be at zero moths/larvae/eggs. We’ll see…
