@penguin42 there’s no interoperability with other networks, so as marketshare is captured, network effects dictate that the value of other systems diminishes because they can’t compete. It’s also the reason why building “markets” on top of train lines and other closed loop systems fundamentally doesn’t work

I’m currently in bed sick with COVID, but I’m really looking forward to trying out the new TRAMP support for justl.el https://github.com/psibi/justl.el/blob/master/Changelog.org#013 #just #runner #tramp #emacs #make

My presentation at work today was a success. I did it in #Emacs using org-tree-slide! It was nice to be able to just focus on content in org-mode and then directly present it without having to re-draft.

Feeling very proud of my country (#Scotland) today; the so-called “lord advocate” has given the green light on safe consumption rooms. If you live in Scotland and have a drug problem, you will no longer be forced to use somewhere unclean and unsafe if you have nowhere else to go. The net result is less deaths and more regular contact with people who can help you. This is exactly the sort of policy needed to end the drug war. Well done everyone involved, many lives will be saved, and many families will have a chance to become whole again#scotland #scotpol #drugs #safeconsumption #healthcare #SocialJustice #socialwork

For those who wish to read more, see here: https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/glasgow-set-open-safe-drugs-27692641Notice how this has been achieve despite Westminster, not in cooperation with it. They have been trying to counteract progressive drug policy throughout this process. History won’t look kindly, I suspect.

@louis absolutely. I’ve noticed in the last 6 months the cost of a hotel in Birmingham (England) city centre for 2 weeks’ time has shot up significantly. It’d be so useful to quantify this to understand when prices begin to climb, so I know when best to make a reservation

I am very excited to see a new #DAP debugger client for #Emacs, Dape! I've already tried it with rdbg over #dockercompose, and I was able to connect, retrieve the stack and variables, and use the REPL to step through code.I've been wanting something like this to exist for a very long time. You can check the project out here: https://github.com/svaante/dapeYou can see how I set it up for #Ruby here: https://github.com/svaante/dape/issues/36#issue-2039939683This project is one to watch I think. I'm going to be trying it out when I'm back at work.

@mms I’m going to build a confluence -> org-mode exporting tool in Emacs called effluent. I’ve made a 1st draft here but I’m going to rewrite. https://sr.ht/~johnhamelink/Effluent/

@mms I just made it unlisted instead of private, give it another go! It’s not well tested at all currently but i wrote out a plan for it a few days ago. Hopefully I’ll have time to work on it over the coming weeks! Patches always welcome haha

@mms forgot to add - the most interesting part currently is the XML transformation I prototyped which works pretty well! https://git.sr.ht/~johnhamelink/Effluent/tree/main/item/res/csf-xml-to-org.xsl

@freemo perhaps it’s cheaper for them to cut zombie accounts and free up the unprofitable resources than to spend money chasing customers for pennies they may not even realise they owe.

@freemo Sorry, forgot to get back to this message! I'm reading your original toot again - I made the assumption you were talking about AWS, but you were talking about product subscriptions on Amazon.com weren't you? If so, I think that's where the confusion is coming from! :D

@mms say you wanted to connect to a docker container on a remote machine, you can first connect via ssh, then hop to the container. It works with all the connection protocols available to TRAMP! GNU.org is timing out for me right now but I believe you can read more here: https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/tramp/Multi_002dhops.html

@mms you’re of course absolutely right, but the automations you can use around the protocol have grown up a lot over the last five years! Since we’re both emacs people I’m tempted to reply with hyperdrive.el and its associated hypercore network. I do plan on experimenting further with it in 2024 :)

@mms unsure, I only tried it out once after a cursive read through. It’s p2p but that doesn’t mean it’s replicating as you say
