Very cool, the W3C Design System refers to our GOV.UK Design System heavily - both in design and guidance. For example they link to our form validation guide (which I helped write) here:https://design-system.w3.org/styles/form-validation.html#W3C #designSystem #frontend

In the public sector we're often told to follow what the private sector do, that they are the model to follow. In reality, we do some things better in the public sector: accessibility, user research that is not led by profit, working in the open, avoiding deceptive patterns, going slow and not breaking things. The web itself came from the public sector, we can all learn from each other.

Just realised chatGPT is violating the gov.uk content licence:You must (where you do any of the above):acknowledge the source of the Information in your product or application by including or linking to any attribution statement specified by the Information Provider(s) and, where possible, provide a link to this licence;#ai #chatGPT

@simon isn't the danger that people throw together code that is subtly broken eg accessibility, security. Unless you're an expert you'll miss it

In HTML, don't use `type="number"` use `type="text" inputmode="numeric"` instead.`number` silently restricts input, `inputmode` provides the number keyboard on mobile without any of the downsides.Error messages are far more helpful than input restriction - this goes for `maxlength` too#frontend #html #accessibility

@danielstein seems to be at least partly a spec problem, the spec says"User agents must not allow the user to set the value to a non-empty string that is not a valid floating-point number."

@simon @mhoye I think it's a client issue. Phanpy shows that thread fine, elk is showing that servers UI instead and the thread is not clear that way

what on earth is the use case for Slack's "Also send to channel" option in a thread? I've only ever seen it used accidentally

I think something that can sometimes be misunderstood about the GOV.UK Design System is that if you find a component or pattern isn't right for your users, you can adapt or create a new onehttps://www.gov.uk/service-manual/design/making-your-service-look-like-govuk#if-the-existing-patterns-dont-meet-your-needs#designSystem

@ZachWeinersmith I think there's a bunch of cg composited in too - the giraffe. The whole thing has a dingy weird feel, kind of the opposite of what they needed

any suggestions for the best way to setup email for a custom domain? I use Namecheap, who provide privateemail web UI for about £10 a year per mailbox. It seems fine, the ui is a bit odd#webdev
