The only downside is visibility, and I think I have a safe solution for that in making those old services just another remote. That way my work is safe on my server but still available to others.

Spent a couple of hours researching Standard Notes and it looked like an almost perfect replacement for Evernote. Was just about to subscribe but when I tried the “Desktop” Linux app on my Pinebook it wouldn’t run.Turns out it’s an Electron app.I’m coming to accept that the web is just going to be a mess, but does it have to infect the desktop too?

Yikes.NOAM CHOMSKY: ”It’s one of the gravest times in human history. Humans have been around for 200,000 years. For the first time in their history, they have to decide—and quickly—whether organized human society is going to survive for very long. So, is it the most gravest moment in my life? Yes. But also in all of human history.”https://www.democracynow.org/2018/11/22/noam_chomsky_on_pittsburgh_attack_revival?fbclid=IwAR2tsZIZ3EBZsnS5F5d_MX7pDd8eRerm_DlY5tyvIcfczKwJIMHHZM2uB2U

Looking for a simple git-based blog system. I.E., “git push” and the stuff in the repo turns into some static content at the remote.I’m thinking something that is triggered by a commit hook or some such, ideally turning markdown into markup, although I could deal with HTML in the repo if necessary.Considering writing the whole thing myself but figured I’d ask just in case I don’t have to :)

Man, the more I learn about #git, the less I need anything else.

It’s becoming apparent that my next move should be to start a company of my own. I’m feeling-out what that company should build (or at least what it should build first) and there seems to be more interest in my #offgrid design than other things I’ve discussed.Ignoring the technical specs. (they are out of date), what would a machine with these design criteria be worth to you?I’m feeling-out the design envelope 😁https://gitlab.com/jgullickson/offgrid

The other day we were talking about I/O options (in the context of my apparently controversial BASIC computer) and while I was researching tact-switch based keyboards I came across this:https://hackaday.io/project/158454-mini-piqwerty-usb-keyboardThis one is USB and designed to connect to a regular computer, but I think I could modify/extend it to work with my all-in-1 design.I also came up with a somewhat novel output device but I’ll save that for another toot.

@nonlinear I don't have much worth posting, but I need a place to dump videos of various experiments, etc.

I wonder if there is a simple and reliable word processor for Linux? Something like MacWrite or maybe even the version of Word that came with Office95?

I’ve been following @Codeberg ’s work toward integrating into the #fediverse for awhile and I’m very excited about it.https://codeberg.org/forgejo/forgejo/issues/59I’ve run my own repository servers several times and love the independence from GitHub, but it makes collaboration harder.Distributed, federsted code repositories is a beautiful future.
