@notjustbikes Your sales pitch for the Dodge Ram on Youtube has reached people around the world, including the guy from Parigo who normally focuses on public transit in Paris and obviously watches your videos check out how the standard american car drwarfes even an adult. 🙂 He asks whether people will not need hevy vehicle driving licences instead of car driving ones. parigo, 13 minutes (français). @stux is this to be a separate service or does this mean that a user posting on Facebook will see that post formatted and then transmitted to fediverse?

@HoffmanLabs @RichardNairn OK, 360 did fail on fixed length instructions since it has short ones (register to register), medium one (register to RAM) and I think a couple that were ram to ram. I had forgotten about that and just thought they were all processed as 32 bits with some instructions not using bits not needed. So if the fetcher does need to look at the opcode to know hwo many bytes follow in that instreuctions, then yea, not RISC.

@stux His example pf the Christchurch video does have a point. Intent probably does matter here. But child porn has far less of a grey area. There was a case in Canada not long ago of teacher using camera hidden in pen to "look down" female student's chests. His intent was clearly to peek down to see breasts whereas surveillance cameras may have a "view" but intent is monitor overall situation, not focus on female breasts. (and students know of surveillance cameras , not teacher,s hiddne cam)

@stux More ijportantly, I recall the judgement also making distinction between family pictures where a baby may be naked on a beach etc, and pictures that are clearly with a sexual intent. Similarly, some lady was banned for posting picture of child with some medical ailment asking or advice because was deemed child porn. I don't think the Ex-Twitter guy defended himself well, but however narrow it may be, there is a greay area.

@stux @notjustbikes Since riding a bike is more energy efficient than walking, anyone who can walk can bike with caveat that cycling need better balance control and fastre processing of what you se eto react to obstacles since you're going faster.

Interesting side effect of making streets for pedestrians: (as noted by Urban Caffeine in NYC).Shop keepers on nearby car-focused streets compllain of reduced business because the human-friendly streets syphon off human shoppers. https://youtu.be/4jglkyLAgPo?t=409cc @notjustbikes

Meanwhile in Canada, with the government having decided to do photo ops for "HFR" whose goal is to replace VIA with lobbyist-driven PPP project, the government has used that non-advancing project to justify not helping VIA in any way while VIA is actively cannibalizing its fleet and unable to restore services cut ducing COVID, a clever way for the government to make VIA cuts without being seen as doing so. In the pasat, the govt had paid for upgrades to tracks/stations.

They don't yet support the US Customs app to streamline entry, so I need to bring an old steam-engine era analogue pen to fill out an old analogue customs form on a piece of paper. How quaint 😉 Similarly, ArriveCAN only works at airports now, (during COVID, it was needed also for land border crossings).

@ernie U gare it when media says it filed for bankruptcy. Chapter 11 is the exact opposite, it is protection from bankruptcy. Chapter 7 is bankruptcy. They mention locations in USA and Canada, so technically they would need to file for CCAA in Canada (our equivalent to Chapter 11).

@ernie media don't like bankruptcy protection, they prefer bankruptcy because more sensational. But it is wrong. Note that filing for chapter 11 doesn't guarantee a judge will grant the protection. (but generally, you don't file for chapter 11 unless pretty sure you fit the rules).

@lexolf Nobody should be developping for a browser. That is the whole point of W3C standards. That was the whole point of HTML at its core. It could even be rendered on character cell terminals (with LYNX browser). Microsoft was first to make its browser non standard and get corporations to develop for it. Bell Canada even went as far as preventing those not running that browser from accessing its web site (aka: redirect to a page that says tou can't use the web site).

@clive The Dodge RAM and Ford F150 are compact sports cars that are *needed* to compensate for a driver's low testosterone levels, much like the Corvette used to play that role in the 1960s and 70s. (Although one could argue they are more like a station wagon from space point of view, except the trunk isn't protected from environment like in station wagon, but to the owner, this makes his car look cool. All the trunk is used for is carry groceries from the Costco. 😉
