Horrified by what's going on at the bird site. This month marks 14 years since I joined. The most loyal I've been to any online place, it feels weird detaching. I'm sagld to see it change but that's technology, it's ancient, and time to see it fly. Our tools really are only as good as the people who shape them, use them, care about what they are used for. And as far as community spirit goes Mastodon reminds me a lot of what made organic Twitter good back in November 2008.

@JonathanMosen if you want to be discovered!! I feel it's only a problem if people don't find ways to solve it and that is happening already through the community, boosting and community mods who are phenomenal. Hashtags and automation etc will help users connect, it's really just having the people to invent and popularize ways to make that easier (I reckon)

In more recent years neurodiverse tw!tter helped me find my identity, voice and understanding of self. I gained confidence in openly identifying as #neurodivergent, connecting with others who validated and reflected my experiences. My immediate social (or lack of) context makes that impossible. It gave me access to community, helped me connect with others like me, because IRL there is limited #neurodiversity and I am alone with it most of the time.

I live beside a beach I walk often, because I also have dog who walks me. Walking this morning realised I have a lot of thoughts on these walks that go nowhere, and aren't collected. Which, with my mind, is sort of a waste. Now thinking about this more I'm starting a ransom tag called #BeachThoughts to catalogue these thoughts, because there is something magic about thinking near the ocean. It's the ions!

@aotearoa_ben yeah, online. They seem overpriced for what they are. I'm a student so I guess it feels a bit harder on the budget now I'm making choices between whether to buy food or whether to pay for prescriptions and shit! I wish I could dish out for glasses but they really aren't ideal, because of the ADHD. Breaking my glasses is inevitable for me.

In the beginning, people also found learning tw!tter "too hard" .. only when the algo increased, things like using and following the #hashtag or building audiences #blogging, or creating lists, or searching manually, or hosting 'tweet ups' stopped. That faded in favour of Influencers, rage clicks and dopamine hearts. It made it easy for people but also for advertisers. People stopped organising collectively. Observation: since the redefinition of its 'hate speech' policy overnight, any tweet resembling criticism of Tw!tter or El Musko is noticeably shadowbanned and hidden on site, now the feed is full of tweets amplifying anyone who has issues with Mastodon, or giving pro-platform hottakes supporting the takeover "strategy". This propaganda is practically pinned to the top of the TL. It's really gross to watch, but from a technology perspective I can't not 😬.
