Tuesday morning I got up to take a shower and go to work, went to squat down in the shower and started falling backwards toward the faucet. I tried to catch myself and ended up crashing my arm through the glass shower door instead -- cutting a long line and two holes in my arm where you could see the fat tissue underneathOne emergency room visit later and I was plenty stitched and bandaged up. Spent the rest of the adrenaline and lidocaine putting up a shower curtain 🥲

It's been two days though and it's healing nicely and I can move my arm a lot more easily again! Yesterday I could barely move my arm around at all, so it's a major improvement. Also I'm super thankful I wasn't injured worse! One wrong cut could have been... bad.No more glass shower doors for me lol. Hadn't even thought about danger until my arm went through itSide note I did see a goose looking through the window at the hospital... I think he was released from the door 🤔🦢

@publius Sometimes I *do* open my cabinets and shine a UV flashlight in there, just to check and see if there might be any uranium glasses I've not noticed before!Negative as of yet

@publius It's truly a shame too that we could have made real energy breakthroughs years ago if it weren't for energy capitalism and anti-nuclear propaganda. We're SO close to having molten salt reactors which would revolutionize energy production and make nuclear meltdowns a non-problem. I hope propaganda like this doesn't prevent it from really happening.

I got a new desk lamp today from eBay! It's BLUE! (You have no idea how much time I spent looking at these types of lamps)I also wanted it to be incandescent (which wouldn't be /that/ bad on electricity since I only use my drawing desk occasionally anyway) so I put a 40 watt appliance bulb in it. It's how I'm gonna keep my head warm in the winter.

Articulating lamps -- that's what they're called.According to the eBay listing it's a LUXO lamp from the 1970s. Heck yeah B)

Also I put in the alt text that there was banding in the first image from the camera but it turns out the wall scroll just looks like that when lit from the bottom. Didn't realize till I went back in my room and turned the lamp on and was like "OH that's real"

Friendly reminder that if you're like me (and the majority) and still use Chrome, the time to switch is nigh.- Learned today that software_reporter_tool.exe (which you can thankfully disable in chrome://settings/cleanup) scans literally every file on your computer on a regular basis and sends telemetry data to Google- In January 2023 they're breaking all Manifest V2 apps which means existing (good) adblockers like uBlock Origin will no longer function#TheresNoPlaceLikeChrome#BrowserWars

I've known about the Manifest V2/V3 thing for a while and have just kept my fingers crossed that it will end up where it won't really matter and things like uBlock Origin will just keep on trucking, but I found out about the software reporter tool BS today while going through our Carbon Black alerts. E-mailed my boss to ask if we could block it in Google Admin and sadly the answer is no, but it's straight spyware my dudes.

Like, this isn't acceptable when a random third party does it, and it shouldn't be when my WEB BROWSER company does it!!!Like, I get it Google, you want to know how many people use Firefox or Office or Creative Cloud plus have a best guess at what kind of work people do, but this isn't the way to do it! It's a BROWSER. Let it live as its prime directive. And give people their privacy.

@natalie robocopy is a lifesaver, as it allows you to do actual multithreaded copying in Windows, and it's a built-inhttps://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/robocopy

@publius I've heard Gentoo is good if you want a bit more control (and a more traditional Linux-y experience) - kind of an intermediary between Arch and Ubuntu. I've thought about doing Arch before, but as much of a pain as it is just to do a three-step Ubuntu upgrade, I think I'll save it for a rainy day lolI dislike sandboxed things like snap only bc of how non-unified they feel with the rest of the system. Plus it's annoying to me when apt no longer has the up-to-date package but snap does
