@stux @pre I am actually having to tell friends and family who intend to cross our US border to delete me from their phones since I tend to share anti-Trump articles a lot. I can't believe that I don't live in a free country right now, but I am also not going to pretend that I do. People have thought I was nuts for saying how compromised and dangerous Trump is but I am not pulling my punches anymore. However - I am at the same time not a doomer. I know in my gut we'll get out of this. #uspol

@ricci I cancelled my life-long subscription to Vogue after they did a disgusting profile of Bashar and Mrs. Al-Assad. I could not believe they would give those torturers their hagiography treatment. But I still had Elle magazine!And then Elle fired E. @stux 100% agree. Gambling is highly addictive to some people and can ruin their lives. That's why it used to be mostly against the law. But in the US, the culture is so degraded and tilted toward allowing the investor class to extract maximum dollars from the average American citizen that it's being allowed to proliferate.#Gambling

Mastodon friends I have a question. I had a business reason for opening an Instagram account on my phone. I checked the "no" box when it asked permission to access my contacts. When it loaded up I saw absolutely blood chilling suggested follows. An old friend I rarely correspond with. A Gee's Bend quilter I engaged to make a quilt 3 years ago. Creepy af. Can I just uninstall? Or should I delete the account? I seriously feel like lighting this phone on fire. #Mastodon #Instagram

@gerrymcgovern When I was a little girl I was shown a movie which changed my whole life. Back in those days they'd wheel in a big reel to reel projector. The movie, images seared in my mind, showed a bell jar. Two fruit flies, air and a pile of food were sealed inside. The flies begin multiplying rapidly, then slowly they all died. They didn't run out of food or air, they died from pollution was the point, as I recall. The Mad Max movie seemed to connect to that traumatic memory. 1/2

@gerrymcgovern If I look back, it was around the time when Mad Max came out that I made a huge pivot. Previously aiming at American corporate success, I instead joined the Peace Corps. I learned to live in what we called third world conditions. Met a guy with a foreign passport and the ability to fix things and married him. We had two boys who I purposefully put in a very socio -economically mixed school. I tell folks that I raised my kids to survive the Mad Max scenario. Because I did. 2/2
