One very telling clue is that these claims are very, very rarely accompanied by an actual product, or even a code base we can look at.

And the ones I've looked at were very obviously broken. So didn't even compile. So, did they even run it?Or have they got Claude or GPT or whatever to generate an impressive amount of code in the knowledge that 99.9% of their audience wouldn't bother to look, let alone clone it and try to build and run it?

Don't think of it as hiring junior developers. Think of it as planting senior developers.

When I see posts on social media complaining about the reliability of LLMs in generating code, there are 2 distinct kinds of replies from the "A.I." boosters that amount to:* "You must be throwing the dice wrong."* "Are you using the latest dice?"They are never accompanied by a demonstration of the "right way".

I've just invented Vibe Managing, and I confidently predict that 6 months from now software engineers won't need managers anymore.

The best summary of "prompt engineering" I've seen so far.

"Hoorah! We don't need those pesky software developers anymore". Really?Pause to consider how you'll fare in competition against people who actually know what they're doing.

You might also pause to consider that *when* you need a developer's help, they might not be so keen on cleaning up your vibe-coded mess as a career move. And, since employers haven't been hiring and training new developers for 3 years, that skillset could be about to get much more expensive.

"At the end of the day, Jason, LLMs are just like a compiler. Do you write everything in machine code?"I suspect I would if the compiler got it wrong 30% of the time.

Not in the least bit surprised to learn "AI-created" "actress" Tilly Norwood is actually just a statistical approximation of a real person, singer Stella Hennen, who - gasp! - didn't give permission for them to use her likeness and is now threatening legal action. She wrote a song about it first, of course. Here's hoping this makes Stella famous and ends Tilly's "career" and this creepy face-stealing business model.

Consider the possibility that, in software development, communication and feedback is the work, and coding is the interruption.

For the foreseeable future, when it matters, there *will* be a software developer at the wheel. If Jevons is to be believed, probably *more* of us.I'd start hiring now if you want to beat the stampede for the remaining skilled devs when reality sinks in.https://codemanship.wordpress.com/2025/11/25/the-future-of-software-development-is-software-developers/

One day you're going to wave through an update to your mobile or desktop OS, your Cloud dependencies, your social media apps, your JVM, and there'll be a hidden kill switch in it.That day could well be in 2026, the way things are going.

I guess we're just going to keeping repeating the lie that AI coding assistants speed up software delivery until it becomes truth.

It's sad that, in 2025, I still have to explain the difference between software delivery and coding.

It's like the media decided everybody needs to buy coconut milk. "Don't get left behind!" they cried, so everybody went out and bought tonnes of coconut milk. And now all I see is people trying to find uses for it. Put it in your coffee. Have it in a shepherd's pie. Goes great on a baked potato!

So you read that <your favourite programming thought leader> is vibe coding now, and you've taken that as proof that "AI" produces great code.I'd probably take it as evidence that <your favourite programming thought leader> is susceptible to social proof like the rest of us.
