@foone Annoying with old games that try to give you playing tips on the loading screen, but you never see them because SSD.

@futurebird Just think of it as a Silksong mini boss. You'll know exactly what to do by, oh, the 40th time of so.

@futurebird Without taking away your larger point, we do occasionally see spot energy prices go negative, and negative interest rates were a thing during the recent low interest rate era.

@tess You can't just ask for the two distances you want? I just picked up two pairs of glasses with new lenses. For one pair I specified 20cm and 45 cm as the range (smartphone to desktop screen); for the other 30cm to far distance. With that said, there's a reason I have multiple pairs. Close-to-far mostly suck for close range. I actually have a third pair that's just 20cm, and the most comfortable when reading books and stuff like that.

@futurebird @MCDuncanLab The problem, I think, is that a wastebasket tall enough to be easy to use is too tall to work as a step. Our kitchen waste basket doubles as a stool for sitting; that works well. But for standing you'd need multiple steps, which is not what most people look for in the kitchen.

@futurebird We do this. There's about three good spots for art on our walls. We hang one thing only on each spot, and after a couple of months we replace them with something else. It's great. The thing we hang has the space to shine. And we don't ever have time to get tired of, or too used to any one painting or print.

@Unixbigot Machine vision is a great example of the non-BS uses of ML. That's one thing that really has revolutionized science over the past decade.ML/DL is fine. It's important and - yes, revolutionary. AlphaFold got a Nobel for a reason. But the only thing that attracts all the money and attention is LLM bots - probably because that's the one thing with the potential to increase the money and power for the already rich and powerful.

@mntmn No, not really. And that's a reason why small LLMs as language processors (not chatbots) are exciting.

@mntmn I mean, there's been many attempts. Especially for constrained applications such as a corporate document store and things like that. As far as I know, none of those systems were ever a success.

@futurebird At 165cm my japanese wife qualifies as "tall". Perhaps a slightly less petite definition of "tall" might work better?

@futurebirdTake one look at this persons post history. I've reported it and we're suspending him on our instance. You might want to report him as well, to get him out of yours.

@futurebird I would. The value doesn't lie in the object, but in the act of giving and receiving. A different object - even if identical - wasn't the one given.

@futurebird Also, they hear lots of other people all the time. Whenever they're outside, even if half-asleep in a stroller, they pick up snatches of language from people passing by. I don't think they simply average what they hear either. More like a mode, picking out what seems to be the most common way to speak around themselves.
