@grainloom you're not talking about something like scheme's fluids/parameters (or lisps dynamic binding)?

@grainloom this will show my ignorance, but can't lisp and scheme be used to write pure code, by avoiding or even disabling imperative procedures and macros?

@erkin @guile @emacs @scheme Yes, I would like to see that happen, at least see some movement. I have resurrected the guile-emacs package in GNU Guix a year or two ago and I think @cwebber packaged it initially.I fear however that the biggest hurdle may not a technical one, but getting the mindset of Emacs hackers.

The #GNU #Guix package graph is now rooted in a further reduced set of binary seeds, at about 60 MiB it weighs 25% of what it used to https://guix.gnu.org/blog/2020/guix-further-reduces-bootstrap-seed-to-25/How #bootstrappable is your distro?

We closed the gap between Stage0 and #GNU Mes: the Full Source Bootstrap is near! The package graph is now rooted in hex0, a #357-byte binary & ASCII-equivalent https://github.com/oriansj/bootstrap-seeds/blob/master/POSIX/x86/hex0_x86.hex0Make your distro #bootstrappable!@fsf@conservancy @fsfe@nixos#reprobuilds #gnutools #NLnetFDN

@wauz @fsf @conservancy @fsfe @nixos i see no reason to convince you of anything; just keep installing binary blobs if that makes you happier

@cwebber Yet that's why it's so amazing that the perspective of user freedom is still completely absent from mainstream discussions.

Why do so many people wish they had more time and energy to accomplish things, yet so little people wish for more wisdom to determine what things to work on?

@kingu That would have to be a browser that * has primarily keyboard oriented interface, i.e., does not require visual find/point/clck clumsiness * respects my freedom, and let me run a patched version of a site's javascript * works equally well in (preferred) text mode * is fully programmable, preferrably in scheme (or lisp), like Emacs * can be fully configured in a declarative way, e.g., with guixhave i forgotten something?
