ZOMG you guys I am so excited. My kid spent his Christmas money on a case, motherboard, CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD, and water-cooled radiator.Amazon delivered the last component today and we started assembling at 19:00. I built a PC/XT #clone (8086, #DOS 3.2) in 1987. Before I saw Windows 3 run. "DOS For Dummies" had not yet spawned a franchise. Amber monitor.I built a #Pentium II box in 1998. Ran #WindowsNT? and I got #Debian to.boot on it. I was still innocent of a "GPU"—I didn't even bother with a sound card. Ran #Emacs under Windows!Have not touched hardware since then. @mms I teach six or seven courses every year, with roughly a thousand students enrolled overall. So I write dozens of letters of recommendations each year.I wrote some #EmacsLisp to automate the whole process in #OrgMode. Can't overstate the increase in efficiency—and decrease in stress.Should I make a video about it?

Truly I must be one of the most fortunate people ever to live. First-world material comfort, relatively healthy mente et corpore, and privileged to earn a living inspiring young people about science.It's the last day of the semester and students are bringing me to tears with their words of authentic thanks. I just wish I could show them how grateful I am to THEM.
