spent the entire day fixing an issue with a customer's Power Apps automation, originally developed by my department head.first had to call the customer because the account was MFA'd to his phone.then had to discover wtf Power Apps is (it's part of Office365 and lets you automate stuff, through a web interface that's like a straitjacket soaked in treacle)then had to reverse-engineer what my colleague had come up with - it was a "horse's arse" and "almost killed him" and the bloodstains were still visibleby the end of the day I'd found what was going wrong (it was helpfully retrying a non-idempotent stored procedure) and found how to make it a) not retry, b) have a sensible timeout, and c) send an email if the timeout exceeded or some other failure occurs

dear god. I'm in an all-hands call. director says we are adopting a "zero-defect approach" by... ceasing to work on bug fixes, delegate bug fixes to LLMs, while developers focus on new features. I think I've already encountered this approach already, with a GDPR-breaching bug introduced by a "refactoring" fix in July by a dev I'd never heard of before#GetFediHired anyone looking for an application support engineer/developer/general computer-wrangler, remote or based in Glasgow?

dark patterns at Enterprise car & van rental- asking who my employer is. if you need to know, why's it not on the online booking form- the hard sell on the insurance excess reduction. "it's a £2,250 excess for each instance of damage regardless of fault, pay £25 to reduce that to £250" fuck off- requesting signatures on the tablet for accepting the vehicle, accepting the excess, and accepting marketting emails - twice recently I've been presented the tablet with the page scrolled to "I consent", and the employee has not advised me I can scroll down slightly and sign the "I do not consent" field instead

@m0xEE I mean they're designed to be newbie-friendly, implementing a package manager in C++... to get someone's uncle started on embedded programming in support of some hobby project they'll need a bit of handholding. that's my experience being the Resident Arduino Expert in some hobby communities anyway
